A Feel Good, Look Good Summer Makeover
August, 2005 - Issue #10
In the midst of a So Cal summer, what could perk you up better than a restorative boost to your entire appearance? This time hair and makeup are just the finishing touches to make mother of three, Janina Sager feel like a million bucks again. We rounded up a talented team of experts from Esthetica Medspa Medical Group, Ageless Skin and Body, Glenn Creative and Dress'r Drawers to assist us with giving Janina a superb new look, and they definitely arrived armed and ready to attack!

The Skin

With sun spots and aging, Janina was beginning to believe that her face could never look like it did when she was younger. This is why we solicited help from the experts at Esthetica Medspa Medical Group. Dr. Marc Mani and his associates (Denise Goodwin is pictured here), used the FotoFacial RF™ treatment to revitalize Janina's face and make her skin look healthy and glowing again. After applying a thin layer of cooling gel, the face is treated with a gentle pulse of light and radiofrequency energy. This energy surge reduces brown spots, blood vessels and redness to gradually and gently lessen or eliminate their appearance. Along with the reduction of her "spots," Janina noticed that her face was smoother, less wrinkled and tighter than before. She is looking more youthful than ever and ready to give her almost 20-year-old daughter a run for her money!

The Body

Females never seem satisfied with their bodies, and no matter how hard they work out at the gym. When plastic surgery is not an option, women visit Melissa Lutman at Ageless Skin and Body for a combination of endermologie and ionithermie. Janina wanted to get rid of the bumps and lumps that have surfaced over the years as well as flatten her stomach. While the results are instant (she lost a total of over three to four inches in her waist and thighs!), continued sessions will give Janina the look she desires. This non-surgical, non-invasive approach reduces the appearance of cellulite, contours the body and improves the skin and muscle tone, with the added benefit of on-the-spot inch loss. Janina can now strut her stuff from the sidewalks to the shores.

The Hair

Highlights are a girl's best friend, but when the grays are in full effect, it is difficult to mask the signs of aging and maintain a natural-looking color. Stylist Mary Skelton of Glenn Creative decided that instead of maintaining Janina's blonde shade to cover up her grays, she would take her back to her natural roots by using Schwarzkopf's light brown as a base and adding subtle hints of a sun-toned gold for a golden-beige that will glisten off of the bright summer sun. The color is perfect for the transition to the crisp fall season as well. After the color had settled, Mary wanted to put some life back into Janina's mane by cutting away all of the dead ends and bringing it up to her shoulders. Mary layered Janina's locks with a fine razor to create overall volume and height, which makes her hair look thicker and bouncier. Mary also tinted Janina's eyebrows so they matched her new darker shade. Now she doesn't have to worry about those overzealous grays!

The Makeup

Glenn Creative's makeup expert, Pam Fathi, has worked her magic yet again. Pam started the process by applying a beige liquid foundation from Glow Mineral to correct the discoloration in Janina's skin tone and create a smooth palate. Pam then added some pink undertones and a raisin lip liner and toffee lipstick to draw attention to Janina's cheek bones and luscious lips. A little shimmer and light shadow were brushed on the eyes to open them up and emphasize Janina's gorgeous green irises. Janina's tone lacked a little sun-kissed love, so Pam used bronzer instead of a rosy blush to give her a bit of a faux tan, which accompanied her new hair color perfectly. To finish, Pam accentuated Janina's long lashes with Lanc?me mascara. Voila! Janina is now ready for a night on the town!
