Happy Skin Even when it's Hot
If you have summertime body bothers of any kind, you can pamper yourself with these safe, effective treatments to stay looking and feeling your best.

Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis gives a whole new meaning to the term "sweaty palms." This condition causes a person to sweat more than is necessary to regulate body temperature. Hyperhidrosis may manifest itself in the hands, feet, face, armpits, and groin where there are higher concentrations of sweat glands.

There are several treatments for hyperhidrosis, but patients and doctors agree that a minimally-invasive surgical solution called ETS is nearly always the best available option for people whose lives are upset by the heartache of excessive sweating.

Sun Spots
Remember, a tan equals sun damage, no matter how great it looks. Sun spots are usually larger than freckles and may come and go when the skin is exposed to the sun. Permanent sun spots can be removed through laser treatments, microdermabrasion and other skin rejuvenation treatments. Lasers remove sun spots by slightly damaging the skin over the affected area, causing healthy scar tissue and new skin to form. Microdermabrasion uses the abrasion of tiny crystals to remove dead skin cells and the top layer of living cells from the skin's surface, similarly promoting new, healthy skin to form. Other skin treatments include chemical peels and light energy treatments. Having sun spots removed not only improves your look, but reduces your chances of skin cancer too. Win-win!

Sunbathing Tomorrow? Wait to Wax
It's summertime and the beach is calling - time to line up those beauty appointments so that you are the vision of perfection on the sand or poolside. But you're the queen of procrastination - it's OK to get waxed and hit the towel a few hours later, right?

Umm, no. Award-winning wax artist Heather Nelson says that any waxing you want done, whether it's a brow shapeup, a collection off the chinny-chins or a full Brazilian, really needs to be completed a couple of days before you hit the party boat - and after an intense sun session, in case areas to be waxed are compromised by sunburn or chemical irritation.

It's best to wait 48 hours after waxing to expose fresh skin to the sun; areas waxed are susceptible to irritation and burning more so than unwaxed skin. Best to have your relaxing waxing, then find some fun things to do in the next couple of days - a mani-pedi or hair color maybe, or shopping for a new bathing suit or beach toys or practicing your margarita tasting skills to pass the time. Just keep in mind that you will look and feel better all over if you invest the time in yourself - and don't forget the sunscreen!

WAX by Heather Nelson is located in the Sola Salons on Bouquet Canyon Road. 644-4346
