Center Offers Special Mammogram Prices through May
With a dedication to fighting breast cancer through early detection and timely treatments, the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center is offering a special price for digital screening mammograms during the month of May. Patients who are uninsured, have high deductibles, or whose insurance plans are not contracted by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital can receive a routine screening mammogram for the special cash price of $160.
The best available tool for breast cancer detection continues to be the mammogram. Taken over time, mammograms provide a way to identify changes in breast tissue, such as the appearance of a tumor. The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center, designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), uses digital mammography rather than traditional analog mammography.
"Digital mammography is faster and significantly increases the ability to see very small abnormalities," said Terry Bucknall, director of the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center, a service of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. "It makes it easier to detect breast cancers in the early stage and an earlier diagnosis increases the patient's options for treatment." With its own entrance, home-like atmosphere and friendly staff, the Breast Imaging Center also has the latest ultrasound technology, which complements mammography in cancer detection and facilitates minimally-invasive, image-guided biopsies. Located on Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital's campus, the Breast Imaging Center has performed more than 73,000 procedures and detected 680 breast cancers through mammograms and diagnostic exams.
Appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday, including lunchtimes and into the evening, as well as some weekends. 253-8822
An Introduction to Labia Majora Plasty
Labia Majora Plasty, sometimes referred to as labiaplasty, is a surgical reduction of the size of the labia. Heredity, weight gain, childbirth and aging can lead to a larger vulva with either loose skin and/or excess tissue causing the size increase. This can result in an embarrassing appearance in pants, a bulge in swimsuits and even gym clothes, as well as significant discomfort.
Using a linear removal technique to hide the scar in the space between the inner and outer labia, the process can be completed in the office under local anesthesia. This procedure is completed in approximately 60 minutes with high patient satisfaction.
The procedure is offered locally by Dr. Courtenay White

Miscarriage, Heartbreak AND Hope
Recurrent miscarriage can be a devastating problem for patients and a real treatment challenge for the physician caring for them. Compounding the problem: Less than 50 percent of patients with recurrent miscarriages will have a defined cause for this problem after appropriate medical evaluation.
The traditional definition of recurrent miscarriages has been applied to couples who have had three or more spontaneous pregnancy losses. Given the emotional stress of this condition, it is justified to proceed with an evaluation and therapy in couples with two clinically-recognized miscarriages.
The good news: There is hope for a healthy pregnancy after recurrent miscarriages. Don't give up on your dreams!
Dr. Catherine DeUgarte, now serving the SCV community via the Aesthetic Center of Santa Clarita, is an expert in recurrent pregnancy loss and provides free fertility consultations. 310-209-7700
