Major Management Departs from Valencia Town Center
After supervising the management and marketing responsibilities of the Valencia Town Center for the past 13 years, General Manager Charlie Gill, CSM, and Senior Marketing Manager Kathleen Gill, CMD, have announced that with the advent of LNR Property Corporation selling 50 percent ownership of Valencia Town Center Associates, L.P. to Westfield Corporation, Inc., they are ready to begin a new chapter in their professional lives.
Assuming the managing general partner position within the partnership, Westfield will take over the responsibilities of management, marketing, leasing and development for the property, roles previously involving Charlie and Kathleen as employees of Urban Retail Properties Co.
Viewing their time at Valencia Town Center as their contribution to the history of the Santa Clarita Valley, the Gills have been involved with Valencia Town Center and Town Center Drive since the grand opening in September 1992. "We have been part of this great work in progress, helping to develop and create an exciting environment of shopping, dining and entertainment for the community," explains Kathleen. "We sincerely appreciate the support of our community and know that as the valley continues to grow and develop, that the center will continue to attract the retailers the community desires."
The Gills will continue to reside in Valencia and stay actively involved in community activities. Charlie currently serves as chair of the Santa Clarita CEO Advisory Cabinet to the United Way of Greater Los Angeles and is vice president of economic development for the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce.
More Local Help for Tsunami Relief
TPC at Valencia signed off as an official PGA Tour Course in the recently created U.S. Golf Tsunami Relief Fund to help with recovery and rebuilding efforts following the catastrophic tsunami that ravaged 11 Pacific-rim nations last month.
Through the U.S. Golf Tsunami Relief Fund, players, tournaments, many of the major golf organizations in the United States and the Tournament Players Clubs (TPCs) are uniting to help the shattered region begin its recovery process.
"We are pleased to be a part of such a giving organization and provide support in relief of this great human tragedy," said Perry Dickey, general manager at TPC at Valencia. Over the last 10 years, the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour have combined to donate more than $820 million to charities in the United States and around the world. "We are saddened by the tragic loss of life and terrible destruction caused by this natural disaster," says Terrie Miller, marketing director for TPC at Valencia. "On behalf of the PGA Tour and TPC Network, we're proud to participate as part of the global effort to support the families of the victims of this tragedy and those who survived."
Java 'N Jazz
Java 'N Jazz's January 23 Tsunami Relief Concert benefited Sumatra, the island of specialty coffee, which was hard-hit during the recent natural disaster. The 10-hour concert featured a wide variety of musical acts. Concert-goers paid $5 to attend and received a package of Sumatra Coffee for their donation. In addition, Java 'N Jazz's concert-day sales were also donated to the relief effort.

Opening its doors in late December, the new Panera Bread bakery-cafe now delights early morning workers and commuters wanting freshly baked bagels and pastries and a hot or cold drink for the road. As part of its "Operation DoughNation®"program, Panera Bread has partnered with the Child & Family Center of Santa Clarita. Selected by Panera employees, the nonprofit seeks to keep at-risk families together by offering programs of comprehensive prevention, early intervention, drug evaluation and therapeutic services.
