The Dangers of Drunk Driving
The damages of an accident caused by a drunk driver can be ruinous for anyone. There are few combinations
that are more fatal than mixing drugs or alcohol with driving. The truth of the matter remains that no one
should ever have to live with the consequences of such gross negligence.
It is illegal to drive while intoxicated in the state of California. If a drunk driver caused an accident that involved you or a loved one, not only will the driver be financially responsible for the damages that have been wrongfully caused to you, but the drunk driver will also be criminally accountable for their misconduct.
Partnering with a law office that specializes in personal injury caused by drunk driving can ensure that your best interests are protected.

A Trust Avoids Medi-Cal Reimbursement Claims
Medi-Cal is a California-based insurance program that pays for care that Medicare and regular insurance will not. It could be as little as a $20 co-pay for a doctor visit to more than $9,000 per month for full-care in a nursing facility. With the medical needs increasing at the end of life, the bills paid by Medi-Cal can grow to incredible amounts, even for people who normally carry their own insurance.
What is less well known is that Medi-Cal is reimbursed from your estate for some or all of the payments made. The reimbursement can be delayed if the deceased left a surviving spouse until the survivor passes. But sooner or later, Medi-Cal will seek reimbursement, which could be tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. This can be devastating to families who may have been counting on receiving a substantial inheritance.
The easiest way to prevent Medi-Cal reimbursement is to use a revocable living trust. Since 2017, Medi-Cal is prohibited from seeking reimbursement from any assets placed into a trust prior to death. A trust can hold real estate and any large bank accounts. While revocable living trusts are incredibly valuable tools to avoid probate and have an orderly settlement of your affairs, they are essential for anyone who is currently receiving or will receive Medi-Cal.
