Chadwick Boseman's Estate is Finally Closing
"Black Panther" star Chadwick Boseman died in 2020. Even though he was diagnosed with cancer, he failed to prepare an estate plan during his life. Instead, his widow was forced to go through probate. In the end, the probate will have lasted more than two years, even though the case was filed immediately after his death and the family was not fighting. The most important lesson is to invest in an estate plan while you can. Just a little preparation during your lifetime can avoid years of probate. Without an estate plan, your family can spend years in court, even if there is no fighting.
The next lesson is that a trust-based plan is private. If Chadwick Boseman had prepared a trust, then there would be little to no reporting on his personal affairs. Reporters would not be reporting specifics about the estate property and heirs.
