Spring Cleaning Your Estate Plan
Spring is a great time for cleaning but your home isn't the only thing to clean. Here's a few simple things you can do to make sure your estate plan is up-to-date.
Life Events. Have there been any major events that might impact your estate plan? Births, deaths, marriages, divorces, health issues, and major moves in your life or the lives of your loved ones can have an impact on your estate plan.
Beneficiaries. If you use beneficiaries on bank accounts, make sure the beneficiaries are accurate and do not point to someone who is deceased, a minor, or otherwise unable to claim the account.
Assets Inventory. Make sure that your trustee/executor can discover all of your assets. A simple way to make sure they know what and where your assets are located is to create a list of accounts, insurance policies, and other assets in a sealed envelope that is updated annually.
Review Your Estate Planning Documents. Review your documents. Make sure your agents are the ones you want to place in charge. Make sure you have all the documents that might be needed, not just a trust and/or will.
Annual spring cleaning of a complete, up-to-date, and well-organized estate plan is the best way to make sure nothing was forgotten or missed. For a few moments a year, you can be confident that your plan will work the way you intend it to.

Co-parenting Conflicts? Be Smart About what You put in Writing
Have a harsh word for your ex? Bite your tongue. Yes, even if you're furious about how they handled last week's kid exchange. Yes, even if they didn't do what they promised to do. And yes, even if they're entirely in the wrong about... well, everything.
Don't put anything that could reflect poorly on you in a text, email or recording - because the court will look to these documents as a reflection of your character. (And before you come for me, don't do it verbally, either - but that's the topic for another article!).
On the other side of abusive communication? You may want to consider communicating in writing, briefly, to let them know that you're not going to respond to abusive messages going forward. Then - don't.
Judges don't want to pour over dozens of pages of text and email screenshots to see "who started it." You do yourself no favors by responding to abusive or cruel messages in kind. When the abusive messaging is one sided, it's easier for a judge to reprimand the parent who chose not to hold back in communications.
Of course you and your co-parent are going to disagree on things - that's likely why you broke up. And communicating about those disagreements in writing can help take the emotion out of the exchange.
If your court order allows it, text and email can be your co-parenting BFFs. Good co-parenting communication is clear, direct and brief. It's never filled with expletives, threats, name calling, baseless accusations or "drama." Have a serious issue to address and you're not sure how to go about it? Lean on your legal team for support.

Keeping You & your Family Safe
A trio of Acura models has clinched top honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for their exceptional safety standards in 2024. Both the Acura Integra and Acura MDX have soared to the highest echelon, earning the prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating, while the Acura RDX secured the TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) rating. These accolades come on the heels of rigorous testing, including an updated side crash assessment by the institute, which subjects vehicles to 82% more crash energy than previous evaluations.
Integral to these stellar ratings is the integration of AcuraWatch driver-assistive and safety technology as standard across the Acura lineup. This comprehensive suite encompasses cutting-edge features such as Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Underpinning the safety prowess of all Acura vehicles is the proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, meticulously engineered to shield occupants in diverse frontal collisions. Complementing this architecture are advanced supplemental restraint systems, including pretensioning front seatbelts, and an array of front, side, knee, and side-curtain airbags.
As a frontrunner in the automotive industry, Acura remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering not just safety but also distinctive design, innovative engineering, and high performance, all rooted in the brand's Precision Crafted Performance DNA. Notably, all Acura vehicles sold in the United States are proudly manufactured domestically, utilizing a blend of domestic and globally sourced components.
