Proper Asset Titling is Essential for Estate Planning
Asset titling is a complicated and often misunderstood topic. "Titling" refers not just to who owns the property but how the property is owned.
The title of the asset will determine not only who will receive the asset after death but the process they will need to go through to claim it for themselves and the tax consequences of the transfer.
For example, it is not enough to simply create a trust. The house and bank accounts must be retitled into the name of the trust for the trust to properly work. One of the most common mistakes in estate planning is a failure to retitle an important asset into the name of the trust.
A number of issues arise when assets are not properly titled. They range from the asset going through probate unnecessarily, assets being transferred to the wrong person, paying more in taxes and even losing some or all ownership of the asset prior to death. For this reason, it is best to consult an attorney experienced in retitling assets to avoid these unwanted issues.

Who Do You Think You're Talking To?
Choosing the Right Audiences for your Business

Here's one of my most uttered sentences as a university marketing professor and business strategist: "When you try to talk to 'everyone,' you end up convincing no one."
Ask nearly any small business owner who they're trying to sell to and their answer will be, "Everyone!" After all, entrepreneurship is tough - why restrict your potential client base?
But there are really good, data-driven reasons for refining your sales and marketing messaging to narrow audiences. In 2024, when we can mumble to ourselves,
"I really need new carpet" and then open a social media app to see a totally-not-coincidental flooring-store ad, our audiences expect specificity and customization in messaging.
Simply: They want to know what's in it for them - and you can't answer that convincingly when you're trying to talk to everyone at once.
So, who should you be talking to?
First, look at who already buys from you and businesses like yours. Pay attention to most common ages, genders, roles, interests, needs. Next, consider who should/could/would buy from you - but doesn't... yet. What are the common elements there?
Then, start planning out your talking points to each of these groups. Summarize their needs - and how your products and services fill them.
Once you've refined your messaging, identify where and how to share it by "going where your audience is." Do some segments of your audience love a particular magazine, newsletter, social media influencer, non-competitive store, third space, etc? That's where you start.
