Community Tree Lighting Festival - Henry Mayo Hosts Community
Tree Lighting Festival Santa will help usher in the holiday season with his arrival at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital's Community Tree Lighting festival. The tree lighting is the culmination of the 27th-annual Community Tree Lighting celebration, which will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the hospital campus. The free event is a wonderful SCV tradition filled with music, entertainment and holiday activities including a card and ornament decorating station, letters to Santa, children's holiday crafts, refreshments and more. Marvel at the sight of more than 3,000 lights and ornaments on the 42-foot community tree. Everyone is invited to participate in the Gift of Life program with a special sponsorship of a light or ornament in honor or in memory of their loved ones. Sponsorship levels range from $25 to $1,000. Gift of Life sponsorships will be recognized on a special display at the celebration and can be viewed on the hospital's website at www.henrymayo.com throughout the month of December. A commemorative holiday ornament will be sent to donors. All donations benefit patient care services at Henry Mayo. Laud to the Nativity - Santa Clarita Master Chorale presents "Laud to the Nativity", a simple Christmas story in the words of a 13th century poet (in English), and yes, there's an angel, shepherds, Jesus' mother Mary and of course, a choir.
"Shehecheyanu", a softly sung Hebrew prayer, gives way to a joyous dance of thanksgiving. From England, we'll be featuring "What Child Is This" and "The Ditchling Carol," an 18th century poem that reminds us the holidays are about giving. It will be the young people's turn halfway through the concert when the Santa Clarita Children's Honor Choir returns to the stage for a caroling medley, and stay tuned for a surprise or two when we "Deck the Halls." The Nutcracker Ballet - Save the date for one of Santa Clarita Valley's most treasured holiday traditions, the Nutcracker ballet.
