•  Mel Carll Photography Exhibit - Inside SCV Magazine photographer Mel Carll's art exhibit opens at the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library on August 2. Called, "The Ground Beneath Me; Not Above Me, So Enjoy Life...," the exhibit explores Carll's battle with cancer and radiation - and his choice to find the bright side. This display is full of hope, positivity and a love of life - and runs through December 3.

Can they keep everyone safe and sort through the secrets hidden in plain sight? •  Bark for Life - Join the fun and bring your dog to the American Cancer Society's annual fundraiser Bark for Life. The event will be held on Saturday, November 16 from 10am to 2pm at the Westfield Valencia Town Center Mall, near the lower parking area on the corner of Valencia Boulevard and Citrus Street. Admission is free and guests can register their dogs for $15 ($25 for two dogs!). Registration includes a free goodie bag.
Bark for Life is a nationwide event for ACS and the fall kick-off event for the spring Relay For Life fundraiser. This event honors the healing role that dogs serve as companions who relieve stress and elevate mood. All funds raised support research, services and education provided by ACS. The day will be filled with music, vendors, photos, games and raffles. Come celebrate canine companionship, honor cancer survivors and support the American Cancer Society!

•  Jacob Anthony Zamora Sporting Clay Memorial Shoot - Join us as we help raise funds for the Newhall and Antelope Valley CHP Explorer Program as well as local scholarships through the Jacob Zamora Memorial Foundation. Scholarships are designed for high school seniors, exclusively in the Santa Clarita Valley, with a grade point average between 2.5 and 3.4. In Jacob Zamora's short but remarkable life, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and dreamed of becoming a CHP officer. •  Light Up Main Street - Each year, Light Up Main has grown in popularity and in size! Last year we had an estimated 10,000 people on hand in Old Town Newhall to see our city council flip the switch and illuminate thousands of holiday lights. This premier holiday event will shut down Main Street for blocks of activities, food trucks, vendors and live performances on Saturday, November 16. Children of all ages will enjoy playing in the snow and getting a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus. On the main stage right in front of the Old Town Newhall Library, there will be festive performances and holiday songs with host and Santa Clarita resident, Chris Schauble, anchor of the KTLA morning news. The performances kick off at 6pm with the tree lighting happening at 7:30pm.

•  Festival of Trees - Benefiting Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley
Support local youth, get into the holiday spirit and visit Festival of Trees at Valencia Town Center. Join in the tradition and visit the Hall of Trees, where you will find over 40 beautifully-designed and themed Christmas trees. In the Tabletop Christmas Trees area you will discover three- and four-foot trees that are guaranteed to amaze even the most seasoned elf. •  CBS Holiday Boutique - Fall is in the air and the holidays are coming.Thanksgiving, pumpkin pies, family time, and... holiday shopping! Congregation Beth Shalom Preschool will again host its annual Holiday Boutique featuring vendors with various handmade items, jewelry, crafts and shopper favorites such as Origami Owl and Pampered Chef. Each year they also feature a raffle with items donated by wonderful vendors, along with their very own Cafe Shalom featuring coffee and bagels. They will also have the Scholastic Book Fair open. Proceeds from the boutique go directly to preschool programs. Some of the recent enrichment programs have included yoga, music and reading with the children. Over the years, the boutique has also helped fund the annual Snow Day where they bring snow to campus to give Southern California kids a taste of the cold stuff! The boutique has also helped the preschool with upkeep of the playground equipment, fencing and bark where children play. The Boutique is free for shoppers to enter. •  Elf: The Musical - You'll be headed for frivolity, laughs and good cheer when you join family and friends for the musical, "Elf" at the Canyon Theatre Guild. Yes, this is the story of Buddy the elf who believes he is one of Santa's jolly helpers. But with the prodding of Good ol' Saint Nick himself, Buddy discovers his true human roots in the funniest of ways. The Canyon Theatre Guild Playhouse is always decked out in its holiday finest this time of year; arrive 30 minutes before every show to join their cheerful members of the cast and crew in singing holiday carols.
