A few weeks ago, the social-media post went semi-viral, even though the subjects of the photo were non-descript brown cardboard boxes in the back of a car.
But it was Salt Creek Grille Owner Greg Amsler's vehicle - and those big boxes were filled to the brim with meals intended for domestic-violence survivors and essential workers.
Greg being Greg, we know that he didn't take the picture - or probably even know it was going to be posted. Since the inception of Salt Creek, he's been a trusted, incredibly-generous supporter of... everyone. There wouldn't be room for more words on this page if I listed all the individuals, organizations and communities he's humbly helped.
This wouldn't have normally been newsworthy. Santa Clarita's lucky for a lot of reasons - but a big one is that our local community businesses rally around our nonprofits, schools and charities in a major way... especially our restaurants.
It's a big deal now because our eateries are hurting.
Friends, it's time to rally back. The people who feed us are hungry for our support.
Look at your budget. Figure out how much you can generously spend, including impressive tips.
Then spend it.
And if you can, fork over that food money directly to the restaurant and its employees. Food-delivery services charge you a pretty penny for the convenience - but the restaurant also pays mightily.
Pull out of the driveway, pull on your mask and pull out your wallet for a safe, socially-distant pick up that puts the money where it matters most.
Eat up, Santa Clarita - and order seconds. Our restaurants need you to.
