Humankind's Best Friend Joins Fight Against Invisible Disease
Diabetes is no longer just for humans. Just ask Speed Bump "Bumper" Fleming, official canine greeter of Valencia Acura along with sister Test Drive "Tessie." Last December, life as they knew it changed for Don and Cheri Fleming as their beloved Bumper was diagnosed with canine diabetes. As devastating as that news was, the family has come a long way in accepting, treating and managing his disease.
And now this life-changing experience have made Don and Cheri advocates for all people (and dogs) fighting this deadly disease. When the American Diabetes Association approached them to help further the organization's mission of preventing and curing diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by the disease, they couldn't turn a blind eye. The dealership's canine greeter has accepted an additional role, which may be his greatest challenge ever.
Bumper will lead the fight to Stop Diabetes in the Association's first-ever canine walk on Saturday, November 5 at Six Flags Magic Mountain during the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes. This is a rare opportunity for walkers to walk the park prior to opening and have the option of walking with their canine friends. Bumper invites all dogs to join in, including Diabetes Alert Dogs, service dogs and everyday dogs who will accompany their human walkers.
"Walk With Bumper" as he leads the pack as Team Captain of his Step Out Team. Join Valencia Acura - in person or virtually - or start your own team to help this little champion and all those affected by this deadly disease. Go Team Bumper! www.diabetes.org/stepoutmagicmountain
