It's your Last Chance to Support Heart of the West
September, 2017 - Issue #156
It's not too late to get your tickets to Heart of the West, happening Saturday, August 26! With only two weeks to go, guests can expect an exciting evening featuring one-of-a-kind live and silent auction items, a delicious meal catered by Salt Creek Grille and what it is all about:

a demonstration by the children of Carousel Ranch!
This year's event is centered around growth, as the past year has been the biggest period of growth in the organization's over-20-year history. Carousel Ranch is now serving more students than ever. This is due to the incredible partnership that Carousel has with our community and, in large part, to the generous funds raised annually at this event.

Anthony Faggioli's own story of personal growth ties into this theme as he recalls beginning as a student at the Ranch. He says, "I began lessons at Carousel Ranch at the age of 2 1/2. I stopped riding at 9 after I had major leg surgery. After the surgery, I was in tremendous amounts of pain. I was in bed for two months and after that, I had to learn how to walk all over again. It took me over a year to recover. However, I can now walk without the use of a walker or wheelchair and am able to ride horses again. At Carousel Ranch, I can get the stretch that I need while being around horses and the friendly staff. After each lesson, I can tell that I am more stretched out than I was just 30 minutes prior. It's a unique stretch that I can't get with my home exercises. Each lesson helps me to walk better." Anthony is just one of the riders that guests will meet during the children's demonstration!

The Carousel Ranch Story

Carousel Ranch is a special place where disabilities seem to disappear. For anyone not familiar, this nonprofit organization has provided developmental therapeutic and recreational programs for children with special needs through equestrian therapy for two decades. Meet Sophia, a sweet and loving 6 year old with a diagnosis of ADHD, autism spectrum and OCD. She began riding at Carousel Ranch at age 2½ and the difference in her development since that time "has been life changing!" says her mom. Sophia's developmental delays often affect her ability to focus and process information, leading to struggles with academics, along with emotional and behavioral delays. She can be impulsive and act out without thinking, not always aware of safety. With patience, insight and the ability to understand exactly what Sophia needs at any moment, the staff and volunteers at the Ranch foster an environment of calm, acceptance and guidance. "Carousel Ranch is family," Sophia's mom recently wrote. "They accept our girl and they have made a significant change in her development." We hope readers share our passion for the work of Carousel Ranch and join us in offering support to the 21st Annual Heart of the West on Saturday, August 26.
