Set Sail with LARC
September, 2019 - Issue #180

LARC Ranch is inviting the entire community to "Set Sail with the S.S. LARC" in a seafaring-themed fundraiser packed with live entertainment plus great food, fun, games and dancing.

"We're going nautical this year as we celebrate 60 years of LARC and set sail on our next 60 years," said LARC Ranch Executive Director Kathy Sturkey. "Our annual fundraiser takes on a new theme each year - and this year we're asking everyone to 'be our lifesaver' and get into the cruising spirit as we raise funds to provide homes and services for developmentally-disabled adults."

The Sunday, September 22 cruise-themed fundraiser will feature shuffleboard, glamorous shops and games for the whole family. DJ Bino Bates will spin tunes for dancing on the "top deck."

Proceeds from the event benefit the nonprofit rganization's residential and day programs and services. LARC Ranch, in picturesque Bouquet Canyon just past Vasquez Canyon Road, provides a safe home environment for more than 100 developmentally-disabled adults.

The annual fundraiser is designed as a family-friendly event including great food, carnival-style games, live entertainment, music and dancing under a big top-style tent. The numerous food and dessert offerings include options for every taste, ranging from a full-blown buffet to a hot dog cart, an In-N-Out Burger truck and more.

"LARC's residents and their families look forward to this fundraiser every year," Sturkey said. "We're inviting all local residents and families to join us for a fun afternoon getaway and to see what LARC is all about."

Join the Fun!
The fun is scheduled to start at 1pm on September 22 at LARC Ranch, located at 29890 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. Adult tickets cost $125 each; children's tickets are $50. A family package of $325 includes tickets for two adults and two children. Food and games are included with admission. Reservations and additional information are available online. The Carousel Ranch Story

Carousel Ranch is a special place where disabilities seem to become invisible while on the back of a horse. For anyone not familiar, this nonprofit organization has provided developmental therapeutic and recreational programs for children with special needs through equestrian therapy for more than two decades. The Ranch also started an innovative and creative vocational training program for young adults with special needs over the past few years, known as Ready to Work! This is a transformative place where therapy is disguised as fun, and every child can and will succeed. Meet 5-year-old Christopher Ochoa, who proves every day that appearances can be deceiving. When he first came to the ranch two years ago, he looked tiny and fragile hooked to an oxygen tank. Born with cerebral palsy, Christopher is also trach dependent, so there is a lot of equipment to handle logistically when on a horse. From the first moment he sat on the horse, a big smile erupted from ear to ear and his mom couldn't hold back tears. This boy, who was not given a great prognosis in life, is beating the odds and overcoming obstacles every day - and Carousel Ranch is grateful to play a role in his life's journey. Christopher, like other children at the ranch, have the heart and determination of champions. We hope readers share our passion for the work of Carousel Ranch and join us in offering support for the 23rd Annual Heart of the West Dinner, Auction and Children's Riding Demonstration on Saturday, August 24. carouselranch.org
