"As the months drag on, MANY ARE FEELING the frustrations of being told what they can't do - which is why the City of Santa Clarita is reminding residents of all the can-dos we are fortunate enough to enjoy in our community."
Q: Over the past few months, as we navigated the uncharted territory of the COVID pandemic, we kept hearing from the State and the County what we can't do. Tell us how the City of Santa Clarita is celebrating what it can do for its community.
The always-changing health orders from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the Governor were put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. As the months drag on, many are feeling the frustrations of being told what they can't do - which is why the City of Santa Clarita is reminding residents of all the can-dos we are fortunate enough to enjoy in our community. Throughout the last few months, the City has kept our trails, paseos and parks open for exercising and being active. The health and wellbeing benefits of simply being outside in nature and soaking up that vitamin D are so important during this time of uncertainty. If you are yearning to discover arts and culture, visit SantaClaritaArts.com for virtual art gallery tours, and while you're there, download the public art tour app. It will guide you through our City where you can explore the dozens of public art pieces - from the Art Bear Family to the new mural at the Skatepark to the Imag_ne sculpture and Sidewalk Poems! You can find more can-dos on our City's website at santa-clarita.com.

Q: What is the #9PM Routine, and how can it help residents protect their valuables?
Santa Clarita has long been hailed as a safe community, but we want to remind residents not to take these accolades for granted. The #9PM Routine is a public safety campaign from the City and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. It reminds residents of important steps they should take every night at 9pm before going to bed. These steps include locking the doors and windows of homes and cars, turning on exterior lights and making sure valuables are not left in plain sight. Thieves are looking for a crime of opportunity and can easily break a car window to snatch a purse or laptop tucked behind a seat. Search #9PMRoutine on social media for more tips.

Q: What is the latest news from the City's premier Arts and Entertainment District of Old Town Newhall?
If you haven't been to Old Town Newhall lately, so much has changed over the last few months. Newhall Crossings is now complete, with residents enjoying their new apartments on the upper floors and expansive views of the City, while the lower floors are now ready to open for business with a wide range of retail and restaurant options. Some of the highlights include XRO Fresh Churro Bar, The Loaf Japanese Bakery & Cafe, Rustic Burger House, Pops Artisanal Creamery, Maginn's Irish Pub, The Glasshouse LA Dance Studio, Grit + Gratitude Holistic Wellness and C'est L'Amour Nail Spa. Right next door to Newhall Crossings, the much-anticipated Laemmle Theatre project is nearing completion and plans to open just as soon as movie theatres are given the green light to start showing films. The new theatre will offer seven screens and feature film festival favorites and art-house movies.
