Q: It seems like there is always a new project or city amenity in the works. What does Santa Clarita have in store for residents in 2022?
The City of Santa Clarita has built a reputation as a forward-thinking organization that thrives through good planning and implementation measures, ensuring superior services and top-notch amenities for our community. This was evident last year with the opening of The Cube, the new Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and the new Canyon Country Community Center - and there is much to look forward to in 2022! We have already broken ground on the Central Park Buildout Project, which will bring four new multi-purpose fields, an exercise staircase, enhancements to the dog park, additional parking and a new restroom facility to the southern end of the park. Work is slated to be completed in the second half of the year. Other much-anticipated recreational amenities include a new inclusive play area at West Creek Park, a second bike park and a roller rink. Q: The Winter Games festival is coming up at The Cube. Can you tell us more about that?
Our city is known for producing world-class athletes, and what better time to get in the competitive spirit than during the Winter Games in Beijing! We will kick off the excitement with a full slate of fun and games at The Cube, including an outdoor movie night, torch relay, trivia games, a winter sports experience, hockey, figure skating and curling demos, food and more! This will also be the opportunity to celebrate the Santa Clarita athletes who competed in the Summer Games. We hope to have them there in person if their competition schedules allow for it - if not, you will get to hear video messages from our local medal winners. The fun kicks off in early February with a full-day event on February 5.

Q: With the New Year upon us, what are some good public safety tips that residents should keep in mind?
The city is working closely with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department to make sure residents Guard That Auto (GTA). The GTA campaign reminds residents of simple things they can do to keep their cars and their valuables safe. The first tip is to keep your keys out of the hands of thieves. Never leave your car running or your keys in your vehicle to run into your house or while out running errands. It only takes a second for a car thief to jump in and take off with your vehicle. Make sure you always lock up your car and hide any valuables in a locked trunk or safely out of sight. At night park in a well-lit area - and at home, park in a garage or driveway if possible. Also, make sure you are doing your #9PMRoutine. The #9PMRoutine builds upon what you already do at the end of the day - lock your doors and windows. However, it goes a step further and encourages you to double-check that your vehicle's doors and trunk are locked, valuables are kept out of your vehicle and your home's exterior lights are working. Thanks to the hard-working deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and the diligence of community members, the City of Santa Clarita will continue to keep property crime low this year.
