Q: Summer is officially here and residents from all around the city are taking advantage in true Santa Clarita fashion. What hiking recommendations do you have for people exploring the city trails?
My kids and I like going out to our local trails and enjoying the beautiful scenery the city offers. I love a good challenge and enjoy hiking a few of our more demanding trails. On the other hand, my kids often want a more relaxed walk and, luckily for them, we have a ton of trails that tailor to beginners as well as more experienced hikers. One of my favorite trails to visit is the Nadeau trail in the Golden Valley Open Space. The most rewarding part is getting to the top and enjoying the trail's amazing view of our city.
When you visit one of our breathtaking trails, make sure you are prepared. Be sure to go with plenty of water to stay hydrated and use the trails during operating hours only. If you take your furry friends along with you, keep them hydrated as well. With rising temperatures, be sure to check the weather before you start your trek and try to visit our trails during cooler hours of the day. Lastly, be sure to soak in the picturesque views that our many trails have to offer!

Q: The city hosts various events throughout the year. Are there any upcoming events this month that are new to the city?
The City of Santa Clarita takes pride in the multiple events we host year-round. This month, we have a new event at the Canyon Country Community Center- the "Free to Be Me" music festival. This event was first planned for 2020 but never had the chance to come to life due to the pandemic. The one-day festival is a sensory-friendly live entertainment event with arts and crafts, dancing, storytelling, food trucks and much more. Admission to the event is free and I am looking forward to seeing the community come together and show support for this new festival.
Q: Old Town Newhall has become the city's premiere Arts and Entertainment District in the past couple of years. What attractions can people look forward to seeing on Main Street this summer?
Old Town Newhall has everything you need if you are looking for the perfect date night or just a night out with friends and family. This month, residents can enjoy one of my personal favorites, SENSES, on Thursday, June 16 starting at 7pm. The theme for June is Summer Camp. Attendees can look forward to exploring the great outdoors on Main Street while dancing to live music, taking part in themed activities and much more!
While you are there, check out some of the newest businesses to open their doors on Main Street. I recommend grabbing a bite at Rustic Burger or having dinner with a view at the first rooftop bar in the city at Reyes Winery on Main. Then cap off your night at Maginn's Irish Pub with a refreshing drink.
As you make your way through Old Town Newhall, check out our Walk of Western Stars. In April, the city unveiled the latest stars to our collection. Cesar Romero and Ricky Schroder were formally enshrined with a bronze star located between 8th Street and Market Street. I also encourage residents to take advantage of the live entertainment opportunities with a show at The MAIN Theatre. You can see the full performance schedule for The MAIN and purchase tickets by visiting atthemain.org.
