This year is the City of Santa Clarita's 37th birthday! How far has the city come and what are you excited about in Santa Clarita's future?
Santa Clarita has come a long way since incorporation in 1987. What started as a 39-square-mile city that included the communities of Saugus, Newhall, Valencia and Canyon Country has grown into a thriving community that now spans over 70 square miles. Over the years, Santa Clarita has added valuable amenities, exciting events and essential programs, all while maintaining its small-town charm and strong sense of community. In recent years, we've seen major projects come to life, including the opening of the Canyon Country Community Center, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, the Vista Canyon Multi-Modal Center and additions to our park system... we have 38 city parks! These projects are just a few examples of how the city continues to grow and improve, making it an even more desirable place to live, work and play.
Looking ahead, there's even more to be excited about. The upcoming construction of The Rink Sports Pavilion at the George A. Caravalho Santa Clarita Sports Complex will expand recreational opportunities, turning the complex into a premier hub for sports and community activities. The expansive and historic William S. Hart Park is on track to be fully transferred to the city next year. David March Park is also currently undergoing major construction, adding eight acres and new amenities like a state-of-the-art baseball field, shaded picnic areas and more. The Valencia Community Center's completion will introduce the city's first indoor pool, providing year-round aquatics programs. Santa Clarita's future is bright, with many exciting projects on the horizon. As we celebrate 37 years of cityhood, we look forward to continuing to build a community that meets the needs of our residents while preserving the qualities that make our community special.
