Valencia Country Club
Course Overview

Since 1961, Valencia Country Club has enjoyed a reputation as one of the premier golf clubs in California. Host site for PGA Tour and the Champions Tour events for 15 years, Valencia features a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. signature designed golf course, PGA Tour-quality practice facilities and an inviting and relaxing clubhouse. The par-72 championship course features tree-lined fairways and was originally built around the contour of the surroundings so it features very few home sites on the course. The greens are challenging yet fair and water comes into play on six holes. From the back tees, PGA Tour players are challenged but the forward tees offer a fair set up for the average or above-average country club player.

Scratch Golf... Accelerated
Scratch Golf... Accelerated is a training and league competition center designed to bring the game of golf to everyone! Plus, they guarantee you will improve and have fun at the same time. Parents looking for another sport for their child or just the opportunity to introduce them to golf will find programs to meet that need in a manner similar to football, baseball, basketball and soccer - practices/training after school and league competition on the weekend. Adults frustrated with the inadequacy of traditional golf lessons will find a guaranteed program for producing a competent golfer. Leagues are played in several seasons during the year for adults at night. Compete against your friends on Scratch's simulators, which have many great courses - including Pebble Beach.

At Scratch, you'll find the only system in the world where every shot hit during training is recorded and placed into your own private database. This helps both you and your instructor to understand what is happening, where improvement is occurring and where it is not. Of course, if you are just interested in playing golf but don't have the time to devote to walking a course, Scratch has many different programs, including evening leagues. You'll love the 12,000-square-foot center's four stations: simulators for swing work, a putting area for putting practice and improvement, a short-game area with USGA bunker and chipping stations and a fitness room to work those golf muscles properly and help your swing improve.

GOLF TIPS
from LPGA Teaching Professional Karen Walker of Scratch Golf... Accelerated
Brush the Grass on your Takeaway
Often, I see golfers begin their takeaway by lifting the club upward, which then creates a very upright backswing that later causes poor weight transfer and a chopping motion. A great way to start the backswing is to keep your clubhead low on the takeaway. Imagine there is paint on the bottom of your club and then paint a "brushstroke" on the grass. Brush the grass for the first few inches of your takeaway. This will activate your bigger muscles rather than your hands and wrist which will result in a body turn and a golf swing that's both more consistent and more powerful.

Choosing a Golfball that's Right for You
Having a ball that is matched for your swing can really help your scores! A less-skilled player needs a ball that spins less because they tend to put a lot of side spin that causes hooks and slices. A ball that spins less will reduce those hooks and slices. Generally a low-spin ball will create more distance for the less-skilled player, too. Here are a few suggestions. Want more distance? Try the Callaway HX Diablo or for women, the Callaway Solaire. Want more spin and feel? Try the Callaway Tour iZ or Tour iS.
