Observed
Andy, Blake & Brady Gallardo |
SCV tummies have been loudly protesting the lack of gourmet burritos since
Chipotle made their big entrance into the Santa Clarita scene at
Taste of the Town back in May, then toyed with our emotions and didn't open for business until their benefit for
Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital on July 27. Folks like
Andy Gallardo and
Inside SCV Magazine Publisher
Kyle "I eat Chipotle everyday" Crawford helped earn the hospital a hearty $1,900, which will go towards the purchase of a new state-of-the-art CT scanner.
Alyson Stoner and
Taylor Lautner, both big players in
"Cheaper by the Dozen II," broke the spoiled-child-star stereotype that plagues other actors and donated their time to help out sweet little
Jacob "Jakie" DeLong, who has been fi ghting leukemia. The pair was present at a fundraising walk held at
Canyon High School, where dad
David DeLong coaches track. Lunch with the up-and-coming stars sold for $500 at the auction held during the event, which raised a total of $125,000. Folks like the
Brandt family (you probably recognize
Jamee from
Cobblestone Cottage) took to the track in 100-degree heat for the adorable 6 year old.

The money will be used to help the family (mom
Lisa DeLong had to step down from her position at the
Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer to care for her son) and provide complementary therapies not covered by insurance. This family has already lost one child to leukemia; we're happy to report that Jakie has a less-aggressive form of the disease and is already in remission.
Al Gowing & Bill McClendon |
Al Gowing, chair of this year's
Boys & Girls Club's golf tournament, and
Bill McClendon of
Keyes Lexus of Valencia (also the title sponsor of this year's event) joined over 120 putting-aficionados on August 7 in the name of charity. Even though McClendon would like to spend more leisure time driving tractors (We're not kidding - that McClendon is a real renaissance man. We love him and his big do-gooding heart.), he did enjoy raising much-needed funds for local kids.
Kim White,
ReMax real estate extraordinaire, does a lot more than sell houses. When not hanging "sold" signs, Kim is donating cuddly dolls to the local sheriff's station. The toys will be used to comfort kids caught in the middle of domestic strife or violence.
