Will a Hyatt hotel by any other name still smell as, well, Hyatt-y? That was the question as
Noble Investment Group unveiled the "new"
Hyatt Regency Valencia. Since Noble acquired the Hyatt early last year, a boat load of property upgrades were put in place to complete the Regency conversion. Even though Santa Clarita's favorite "it" location for nonprofit events, mitzvahs and weddings alike has been glammed up, it still feels familiar, which is a good thing. Also familiar:
General Manager Chris Aldieri, Director of Sales & Marketing Tim Wildey, Director of Catering Kim Zimlinghaus, Executive Chef Rolf Rothen and Director of Operations/Executive Assistant Manager Raymond Canal.

The Hyatt isn't the only SCVian showing off a fresh makeover. Clients of the
Child & Family Center were treated to head-to-toe transformations courtesy of owner
Shannon Rha and the staff at
Shannon Hair Salon. The pro beauty staff put the proverbial bow on the day with a fashion show produced by Shannon Hair stylist and Bumble & Bumble Network Educator
Ashlee Norman. The guests were gifted with
Bumble & Bumble goodie bags.

And speaking of honchos...
Greg Amsler, otherwise known as the 2009 Santa Clarita Man o' the Year and
Salt Creek Grille owner, has gone all tech-y on us. You can now "follow" the restaurant's happenings online at Twitter. Personally, I'm waiting for a post from "scgvalencia" that announces the availability of SCG's Sunday Brunch seven days a week. My addiction to the complimentary-mimosa event cannot be confined to 140 characters, so I won't even try.
On the topic of free adult beverages,
Julie Mair, owner of
Rooms to Roam, hosted a
Silkwood Wine Tasting Night in May. Fun times!

Rarely does the word "cancer" inspire grins (Ok, it
never inspires grins.). But this month, two local cancer orgs have happy news worthy of a smile.
First up is the
Michael Hoefflin Foundation. The organization, which fights hard to help families dealing with children's cancer, has made some fabulous additions to their Board of Directors.
Robert Barnes, Julie Benson, Tim Ketchepaw, Theone Miller, Ravi Patel, Brad Polak and
Jay Thomas are the newest superheroes eager to do battle against every parent's worst nightmare. By raising money for research and providing hands-on family support, they can make a real difference. We wish them the best.

Life is beautiful, which is why I hope you'll join us at the
American Cancer Society Santa Clarita Valley Unit's distinguished inaugural tribute gala.
"Imagine...La Bella Vida" will take place on Sunday, August 2 at the
Tournament Players Club.
La Bella Vida - "the beautiful life" in Italian - reflects the goal of the American Cancer Society to measurably improve the lives of cancer patients and their families.
The Tuscan-themed soiree will blend the sumptuous cuisine of northern Italy with fine California wines, music and entertainment. Sounds like fun, right?
This isn't an easy time for nonprofits and the ACS, in particular, could use your help. If you can volunteer, donate, buy a ticket or sponsor the event call
Tameka Payne at 298-0886. This is your chance to be a hero!
