There's nothing like a good fashion show to inspire local divas to dust off their push-up bras, schedule hair extensions, snatch the credit card and gossip with friends - all in the name of charity. In March, the
Soroptimists drew 260 dolled-up SCVians to "
Fusion," a new twist in the nonprofit's annual show.
Sorops like
Gail Rocco-Mac and
Pam Ingram took to the stage in finery from
Margo's as a seriously pro sound system bumped in the background. New to the lineup in 2006 were pieces from
Island Appeal (co-owner Shannon McNey is a member of the all-women charitable organization) and
Enchanted Kids.
Just Us Girls participated with an informal garden show.
Event Chair
Kris Zilinski and her team raised $10,000 at the show; Soroptimist supports other local organizations that give women "a hand up," including the
Child & Family Center and the
Senior Center.
It seems like $10,000 is the big number of the day...
Lennar Charitable Housing Foundation / Newhall Land presented the equivalent of 1,000,000 pennies to the lucky ducks ("lucky horses" just doesn't have the same ring) at
Carousel Ranch on April 7.
During Make a Difference Day, the folks at Newhall Land ditched their three-piece suits and pantyhose (no, we aren't implying that the staff over at NL wore these items together) and opted instead for good ol' Levis accessorized with a shovel or two.

The team, including MADD Newhall Land project manager
Bruce Crable and Newhall Land President
Greg McWilliams, returned to Carousel's new home with one spiffy house-warming gift: and oversized $10,000 check.
Carousel Ranch provides much-needed therapy on horseback to local kids suffering from physical and mental disabilities.
Now those are the kind of guests we over here at Inside SCV Magazine have dreamed about... If you'd like to come over and clean our office for free, then pay us for your pleasure, apply online at www.insidescv.com.
