"Our two youngest children have SEVERE MEDICAL ISSUES and attend summer camp here. They have on-site doctors and nurses for all the children's needs. These kids realize they're not alone in the world, which makes life so much easier. When they come home they are little chatter boxes about their week at camp. We just attended a family camp session with our son; it was amazing. I can't say enough about what it meant to connect with all these parents and know that everyone there understands what you go through. We can't wait to go back."

Children with serious medical conditions often get left out of traditional "kid" rights of passage, like summer camp. That's where The Painted Turtle, located in nearby Lake Hughes, comes in. From its adaptive programming to its hospital outreach program, The Painted Turtle empowers children with life-threatening illnesses to gain independence and build a community where they are not alone.
Since 2004, The Painted Turtle has provided over 55,000 camp experiences for children and their families year-round. With the generous support of donors and fundraisers like the annual Hoedown BBQ, campers and families always attend free of charge.
The Painted Turtle is a member of the Serious Fun Children's Network, an international family of camps founded by Paul Newman. The only medical camp of its kind in California, The Painted Turtle serves over 90 different medical illnesses for children. The organization's year-round, state-wide programming strives to give kids the opportunity to celebrate the simple joys of childhood.
"The Painted Turtle is truly a gem right in our back yard doing amazing things for children with serious and chronic illnesses. This incredible camp has served nearly 150 campers from within the Santa Clarita Valley community since 2006. It's tough to fathom that many people still don't know about this unique place. We want to change that," says Tom DiPrima, co-chair of the North Los Angeles Regional Advisory Board for The Painted Turtle. "I am extremely appreciative of the support of the local companies, individuals and Santa Clarita community in general."
"The Santa Clarita Valley community has been a great supporter of The Painted Turtle over the years. We are so proud to be a part of raising vital funds and awareness and hope we can reach new folks every year," said Ryan Murphy, Co-Chair of the North Los Angeles Regional Advisory Board.
