The 2018 Holiday Home Tour is
December, 2018 - Issue #171

In Santa Clarita, the Holiday Home Tour is akin to Black Friday shopping at Target. It's a seasonal rite of passage that you look forward to every year.

This time, you have special incentive to Tour; funds raised will inject the Center for Women and Newborns in Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital's new Patient Tower with vital funds.

But even if you're not feeling philanthropic, you need to go for the decor. It never disappoints, with over-the-top holiday displays that will make you want to watch "Elf" on loop now through the New Year. The four homes - three in Stevenson Ranch's Southern Oaks area, and one in Westridge - have been hand selected to best display a variety of themes, design inspo and holiday happiness. Says Debra Weyand, Home Tour president: "Our homeowners and decorators are already in full swing preparing a wonderful tour filled with 'Holiday Magic' for our community!"

"We are SO FORTUNATE to have such a dedicated support group who not only work tirelessly to raise funds for Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, but who also do it with such style! The Home Tour Preview Gala and Tour is the perfect event to kick off the holidays."
Marlee Lauffer, president, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation
A Pretty Past: Fundraising for Women's Services
In 1981, the Hospital Auxiliary, with Betty Burke as chairwoman, established the first Holiday Home Tour as a fundraising project. In 1982, the Home Tour League was founded to expand the volunteer base and promote participation from the community. In 1990, a Preview Gala held on the evening before tour day was added to celebrate the Home Tour League's 10th anniversary. The gala was so successful, it has become an annual event.

Since its inception, the Home Tour League has focused on fundraising for Women's Services. To date, the League has raised upwards of $1,000,000. One of their most recent, gratifying accomplishments has been the Kim and Steven Ullman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which opened in 2012.

Gifted Designers make Home Tour a Treat
Home-tour decorators are the reason this event is so popular; visitors can't wait to see what new themes and designs they'll display. This year, custom creations were designed by Debbie Filippelli of Debbie's Designs West, Bernard Underwood of An Intimate Place/B.U. Designs, College of the Canyons Professor Patrick Tremblay of Tremblay House of Design and Interior Design facilitator Karen Reilly of Robella Creations, along with five hand-picked design students from College of the Canyons - Grace Trinh, Kylie Van Meter, Joy Estrella-Boyland, Julissa Henriquez and Marlene Beltran. Each will graduate with an interior design associates degree in 2018.

GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE SCV
It's the most wonderful time of the year and now is the perfect time to catch the holiday spirit with the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club's "Festival of Trees" November 17 and November 18 at the Santa Clarita Activities Center. Enjoy complimentary off-site parking during general admission times at Mission Valley Bank, located at 26415 Carl Boyer Drive, then take a free shuttle ride to the event. For nearly 2,400 local young people ages 7 to 17, that path begins at the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club, a place where they learn and grow. With two locations, the club provides tutoring and homework help, daily programming geared toward academics, healthy lifestyles, character and leadership development, along with a variety of art and technology programs. scvbgc.org
