You can hear the commotion of revving engines miles away, you are consumed with intrigue from the parade of beautifully restored classics piling up from the various off-ramps of the 14 and the 5 and you can smell the charcoal of the barbeque grilling away delicious Joni Maroni sausages from your backyard patios.



Yup. It's that time of year again. The Saugus Speedway's Annual Oldies and Goodies Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held on September 10, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and the Speedway is celebrating the 10th inception of the beloved event by bringing in even more cars, bikes and memorabilia than ever before.



When the inside lights of the Speedway illuminate Soledad Canyon Road, you know they mean serious business, and if you are still harboring ill-will for the abrupt cancellation of the races, this is the perfect occasion to see your old stomping grounds in all of their glory. With over 500 antique autos, trucks and motorcycles rumbling into the grounds of the racetrack, the grandiose gala is the largest event of its kind in the Northern Los Angeles County. Die-hard classic rompers revel in the opportunity to compete in over 30 trophy categories and over $2,250 in cash prizes.



If you are classic car minded, you have been gearing up for this event since the gates of the Saugus Speedway closed at last year. You have been diligently painting, scraping, cleaning and detailing one of your most prized possessions to prepare for the hot September evening, when the competition will be tougher than ever. Owners and classic car lovers alike will be on the edge of their seat to find out which cars are the creme de la creme of the show. It is an event catered to boasting, appreciating and admiring all things oldies and goodies.



I am proud to say that I am an Oldies and Goodies show veteran, with all previous nine glorious events under my belt. Every year the track grounds become less visible, as the level of attendees, cars and vendors grow. It is like an exhibit, museum and homage all in one, equipped with inflatable and interactive games, authentic BBQ, beer stands galore (including appearances by the infamous Bud Girls) and live Rock 'n Roll music. This year features San Diego's premier band, The Corvettes, whose roster includes original members of Sha Na Na and The Syndicate of Sound ("Little Girl," 1966). One of the newest attractions the Speedway can't wait to unveil is the Glendale Harley's Celebrity Autographed Love Ride Harley Davidson motorcycle. Glendale Harley will be selling raffle tickets all night long for the chance to win the treasured piece that will be raffled off at this year's Love Ride in November.



The Oldies and Goodies event may be an outright bragging right rendezvous, but it is also a charitable affair. One dollar from every paid admission, plus raffle proceeds, will go directly to Special Olympics of Santa Clarita. This isn't the first time the Speedway and Special Olympics have teamed up; the two have been working hand in hand on the past nine shows and the Speedway has raised over $90,000 for the organization during this time. Area Director for the Santa Clarita Special Olympics Chris Clark is ecstatic about the collaboration, "The Saugus Speedway is a true partner of the Special Olympics, helping local athletes to live out their dreams for the past nine years. We are truly grateful for the community in supporting this event and to the Speedway staff, especially Terri Burbank (Speedway manager), for making it a huge success."
