As I climb into my car in Canyon Country and program the nav to get me to Van Nuys Boulevard, I do a double take after glancing at my estimated time of arrival. At this point in the day, it's faster to get to the car dealership I'm headed to in the Valley than it is to get to the other side of town.
Nice.
I'm not a sports fan, but I'm married to one, which means that when I announced my trip to Russell Westbrook's new Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram dealership in Van Nuys, things got exciting over dinner. "I heard about this," said my ESPN-addicted better half. "You know, that guy's a force on the Oklahoma City Thunder team, amazing player. From Los Angeles, played with UCLA, opened this store as an investment in his community. So, what kind of car are we getting!?"
Westbrook built his incredibly-successful basketball career capitalizing on two things: hard work and commitment. Now, at his Van Nuys dealership, you can see both in action.
I guffawed at that question at the time, but I shouldn't have. After entering Westbrook's showroom, the range of options washed over me like a tub of Gatorade after a big win. "We're very proud of our collection," says General Manager Kevin Oliff. "We're committed to offering the best selection, best deals and best service."
And, from the looks of it, the best new dealership concept, too. It's like the Apple Store, but with really cool cars, trucks and Jeeps - and a fully-functioning basketball court, giant flat screens tuned into today's top games, hip music and staff so approachable you just want to pull up a chair and hang out. Basically, it's the most fun sports restaurant you've ever been to - except the menu features Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. Just swap out the chicken wings and replace them with the car of your dreams at a price you can afford.
Westbrook built his incredibly-successful basketball career capitalizing on two things: hard work and commitment. Now, at his Van Nuys dealership, you can see both in action. This self-described "car guy" has cultivated an all-star team, many of them with a Santa Clarita home address, making up the "Dream Team" equivalent of dealership pros. (In this scenario, General Manager Kevin Oliff is Michael Jordan. Oliff has a long, storied history of remarkable success when it comes to managing dealerships. Customers seek him out and adore him.).
This place is different. There are no "salespeople." They've been replaced with product specialists - and you can tell. There's no hard sell here; the experience is based on relaxed rapport and education. And you can sense that, unlike most other dealerships, this one is privately (Versus publically.) owned. The feeling of pride is evident in every staff member, every extra-shiny polished paint job, every minute design detail.
