SCV designers and contractors show off
"what's hot in the kitchen."

Prior to the actual remodel, this kitchen was redesigned by Pam Di Valerio. Then Randal G. Winter Construction, Inc. stripped the existing kitchen down to the wall studs. This was done because all of the appliances - with the exception of the range - were relocated. In order to create the unique light cabinetry with blue accent, the cabinets were custom made by Dave Prochnow. The cabinets feature a custom seat-bench and table with inside storage, soft close doors and self-closing drawers. Instead of the traditional granite counter tops the homeowner chose the "man-made" material SileStone in Blue Sahara, which perfectly complimented the cabinetry. All appliances were upgraded to the GE Profile line, including the six-burner GE Monogram 48-inch Duel Fuel Professional Range, complete with indoor infrared grilling surface at 14,000 BTUs. Because of the high heat, a special hood with double 7-inch ducts and twin blowers had to be installed. Behind this amazing range is a hand-painted custom tile backsplash. This kitchen remains one of Randal G. Winter Construction, Inc.'s favorite projects.

In this case, the homeowners wanted a change from their original oak-stained cabinets but could not decide whether to go for a light or dark stain. They noticed a popular trend in painted cabinets and fell in love with the Country French look. With an aged painted finish, the details of the kitchen cabinets were highlighted in a complimentary way. The island was given a European hand-rendered cabinet finish, which involves multiple layers of staining during the application process. The final look of the island compliments the white-aged surrounding cabinets. All work was completed by Cindi Rowley of Cindi Rowley Designs, who specializes in Venetian plaster and faux finishes and is a local retail partner of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Transforming kitchen surfaces into something new and fresh doesn't have to be costly. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is a great alternative and can easily turn kitchen cabinets and furniture into something beautiful and unique with simple steps. The Chalk Paint can go over existing cabinets without the need for primer, saving you time and money. With two basic coats of paint and wax you can achieve a classic aged look. Workshops are taught about every two weeks to learn these techniques. Accessories in this kitchen were selected from La Via Bella (222-7006). Cindi Rowley Designs 904-3185 www.cindirowleydesigns.com

They say that "the kitchen is the heart of the home." This couldn't be more true for this kitchen that belongs to Rick and Kathleen Atkinson of Sand Canyon. (Hearts are found throughout the estate!) The traditional-style custom cherry cabinets were stained and hand glazed to the homeowners' specifications and were designed not only to showcase collectables but for maximum function. A focal point of the kitchen is the custom upholstered red banquet, where the heart motif is repeated. Emerald Pearl granite graces the counter tops of the main kitchen island as well as the custom banquet table, which has a free-flow design. Tile on the floors and backsplash make this room not only elegant but ideal for entertaining. The final magnificent touches in this room are the majestic crown moulding, which was custom designed for the room, and the elegant pendant lights above the island.
