Closer to God's Truth & Righteousness
by Jack Winkle
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty," Psalm 91:1. This verse could be an entire Sunday morning message. It's good encouragement as we see the world spiral downward away from God's truth and righteousness.
"He who dwells": Abiding, as a permanent resident - or, He who remains continually. "In the secret place of the Most High": A secret place, away from evil; away from danger. A refuge where the enemy can't find us. A glorious place of peace, safety and joy that God has prepared for all who call on the name of Jesus as our hope and salvation.
"Shall abide": Abiding is a less permanent term, but still indicates a conscious willingness to remain where you are - in this case, resting safely "under the shadow of the Almighty."
Even when the world around us is crumbling, there's a place that we can live, experiencing God's power, protection and goodness - and we see it in this verse: A promise of God. I hope that encourages you as it does me.

What Nauseates God
by Dave White
Did you know there are things that nauseate God? Jesus rejects "Casual Christianity." He is disgusted with smug, self-satisfied, self-sufficient, self-reliant Christianity. He spews out comfortable, compromised, complacent Christianity. To God this is "Counterfeit Christianity." Jesus says it graphically this way in Revelation 3:15-16, "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth."
Tepid faith makes God sick! Laodicea pumped its water in from nearby Hierapolis - known for its hot healing waters - and from nearby Colossae, known for its cold quenching waters. But by the time the water actually reached Laodicea the water was lukewarm, chalky, disgusting and useless. Bad water is bad! Bad faith is worse. Don't be indifferent, half-hearted and uncommitted when it comes to God. It makes Him ill. Remain dedicated, ardent, fervent and zealous for the Lord. Get gung-ho for God. Stay hot for God!
