Best Private School
Legacy Christian Academy Again Earns Title
September, 2018 - Issue #168

Once again, Santa Clarita residents have voted Legacy Christian Academy SCV's "Best Private School" - another accolade added to the National Blue Ribbon of Excellence campus. "We're incredibly grateful to our community for recognizing Legacy with this award," says Head of School Matt Millett. "Our administration, faculty and staff are thrilled to again share this award with our dedicated parents and diligent student body."

The Academy, warmly nicknamed "Legacy Tech" for the campus's emphasis on state-of-the-art learning tools, continues to impress as a premier educational experience for Kindergarten through eighth grade.

Best in Academics
Even young children benefit from differentiated instruction at Legacy, a practice that's usually reserved for junior high and up. "Differentiated subject material is taught by instructors who are specialists in their field," explains Millett. "We have science teachers, music and art instructors, a technology specialist and more who infuse our academically-accelerated curriculum with deeply-enriched learning experiences. These professional faculty members work together with our classroom teachers and assistants to provide each child with the ultimate, well-rounded education." The proof, as they say, is in the pudding - or the test scores. Legacy's national-standardized test-score rankings regularly put the Academy in the top 9 percent of the country. "This is a reflection of our talented teachers, commitment to the best accelerated curriculum, a culture that places value on hard work and diligence and parents and students invested in their success," shares Associate Head of School - Academics Stacie Zorichack.

"Students, and their needs, change year to year. We're always adjusting to their skills and their opportunities for growth. That's one of the things I love about Legacy - that we're so proactive and fluid. We're constantly updating and revising to meet the current needs of our children. That's because we do a really good job listening to teachers. We want the perfect fit - and with the right research and teacher input, that's what we achieve," explains Legacy Director of Curriculum Tiffany Seston.

Besides a rigorous curriculum, Legacy's enrichment offerings provide each child an opportunity to explore and develop new skills and passions. Each Legacy student begins their foreign-language training in Kindergarten; Spanish is taught in every grade and parents have the option of enrolling their child in a Chinese course, too. But the campus's enrichment opportunities go well beyond linguistics. Drama, cooking, intramural and competitive league sports, art and music, student government, video journalism, robotics, traveling academic team competitions and so much more make for a vibrant learning community.

Best in Classroom & Campus Technology
Each classroom benefits from interactive whiteboards with a mobile iPad, document camera, student iPads and more - but the real "wow factor" comes via Discovery Hall. Incorporating the new Innovation and Science Labs, as well as a jaw-dropping collection of aquariums and terrariums teeming with life, Discovery Hall is where students are challenged to sharpen their critical thinking skills and deeply engage with the world around them. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) isn't just a popular acronym at Legacy; it's a way of life!

Best in Safety & Security
To access the Valencia campus, guests must first enter through a pass-coded, locked front door with view-limiting film. The Academy is protected with security cameras in hallways, the exterior of the property and every classroom; LobbyGuard driver's license scanning is a necessity for visitor background checks; and an always-diligent team of administrators, faculty and staff keep a watchful eye. "Legacy keeps children safe - physically, emotionally and spiritually. We work to create a culture of communication where conflict leads to resolution and mutual understanding, not bullying. Our academics are accelerated, but when the material is shared by a Legacy teacher who shows genuine affection and acceptance to every child, kids feel engaged and excited, not fearful or stressed out. And through it all, Christ's love inspires us to nurture every soul through every challenge. I can't think of a safer place for a child to be than Legacy," says Millett.

Best in Faith Building
"Our staff, faculty and administration team is made up of individuals who play big roles in local Bible-believing churches. We have seminary parents, many pastors' children, we're very 'plugged in' to Santa Clarita churches with actively-involved members, so we're all the more able to cultivate a lifestyle here that really nourishes our Christian culture," says Legacy Associate Head of School Garrick Moss. Legacy's distinctive culture provides ample opportunity for Christian character building, which benefits children now - and for the rest of their lives.
Campus tours are available year-round. Legacy Christian Academy is now enrolling for the Fall 2018/Spring 2019 school year.
