Santa Clarita Valley has a diverse crop of high school graduates in 2005; athletes, musicians, thespians, young politicians, scientists, writers, singers, artists and community givers.

Meet Caitlin Morris from Bowman; Ryan Colleta, Derek Dashti, Shannon Krell, Johnny Spelta and Brittney Walker from Canyon; Daniel Crescenti, Ryan Russell, Ashlee Trebilcock and Ryan Wolfe from Hart; Megan Buehler, Thomas Milone and Mike Mowry from Saugus; and Anna Fleischer, Kevin Goodman, Brian Malette and Roya Tabrizi from Valencia.


Ryan Wolfe - Hart

Juggling one sport and school is hard enough; Ryan has somehow managed to excel at two sports while maintaining a 3.7 GPA. He's played in four CIF championship games, and won two. Accepted to the University of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ryan will be playing football on a scholarship and studying kinesiology.

Shannon Krell - Canyon

ASB president, Shannon attended California Girls State (a week-long mock-government program), volunteers for Relay for Life, and interns at Canyon Country Pediatrics. Her personal mantra is, "Define what is possible, then go beyond it." She will be attending UCLA in the fall, where she will be majoring in biology, hoping one day to open her own pediatric office.

Johnny Spelta - Canyon

Johnny hopes to write children's books, novels and screen plays with one thing in common: the SCV will be the backdrop. A member of the National Honor Society, he also volunteers for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation - "Witnessing firsthand the strength and innocence of the children [with cancer] gave me a renewed zeal for life," he says. He's been accepted to Brigham Young University.

Anna Fleischer - Valencia

Maybe you've seen her at Carnegie Hall, noticed her recycling program at VHS, or heard her latest album, "Change." Anna plays guitar, sings, writes all her own songs, and is working to save the environment. She'll be attending the University of Missouri, at Columbia, to study architecture and interior design.


Megan Buehler - Saugus

Student body president, varsity swimmer, Santa Clarita lifeguard, and a founding member of Visions in Progress, Megan set the school record in the backstroke and helped win the team's league championship. She'll attend University of Pacific, with a major in political science. She'd like to be elected to city government, where she can install immediate change and develop personal relationships.

Mike Mowry - Saugus

Mike Mowry sings baritone in the SHS Concert Choir and is active in theatre. He adds, "Theatre is beautiful because of the people it brings together. This balance allows for a closeness that penetrate through the facades that so many high school students [try to] maintain." He will be attending UCLA to study mechanical engineering.

Roya Tabrizi - Valencia

Roya is involved in student government, teaches Sunday school, organizes youth activities, and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics. She credits her involvement in church with giving her a positive outlook on life and being able to respect people different from her. She is planning to attend University of California, Irvine.

Kevin Goodman - Valencia

Kevin is part of the Forum, a "place where a diverse group of students meet to learn about each other and find similarities to promote racial harmony." A student member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity and a leader in The Alliance, Kevin can also be found on stage. He is the lead in Valencia's latest production, "Pippen." Kevin will attend CSU Long Beach, majoring in psychology, minoring in vocal jazz.

Brian Malette - Valencia

Brian is the star kicker for the VHS football team; he once kicked 63 yards in practice, tying a world record. He is headed for UCLA this fall to be part of their football program. Brian can also "catch a fish on any lure or bait known to mankind." However, Brian has a backup plan: he wants to become a war historian and travel the world.


Ashlee Trebilcock - Hart

Ashlee Trebilcock is so good at basketball, HHS retired her jersey this year. She'll attend UCLA, where she'll continue her basketball career. Ashlee wants to serve as a role model to young kids and hopes to start a charity one day.

Ryan Russell - Hart

Ryan is headed to Yale. He helped Hart's basketball team make it to the Div I-AA championship game at the Pond in Anaheim and hopes to walk-on to the team at his future Ivy-league campus. Last spring, Ryan was an assistant coach for a Special Olympics boys' basketball team.

Ryan Colleta - Canyon

An accomplished football player (First Team All CIF, First Team All Foothill League), Ryan plans on being a dentist. However, Ryan appreciates what football has done for him: "Football will do more for you more than you will ever do for football; it has taught me respect and commitment." Ryan is headed to the University of the Pacific to pursue dentistry on an academic scholarship.

Derek Dashti - Canyon

Derek's personal motto is, "Success at anything is something you have to work for, it isn't God-given." Derek has cleaned up riverbeds and graffiti, planted trees, tutored at the Boys & Girls Club, organized his school's food and blood drive, and collected money for Pennies for Patients. He is the president of the Key Club and the speech and debate team, and treasurer for the National Honor Society and the Comedy Sports team. He will be attending UC Berkeley.


Thomas Milone - Saugus

A part of the first SHS baseball team to sweep Hart, this left-handed pitcher and hitter believes that, "Patience is a virtue, and practice, practice, practice." Thomas hopes to pursue baseball at either UC Irvine, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or Loyola Marymount University.

Caitlin Morris - Bowman

Caitlin was selected student of the month during her senior year. She is involved in Bowman's Peer Counseling Program, school fundraisers, and also helps her grandparents, whom she lives with, with their everyday needs. After earning her teaching credentials at CSUN, Caitlin plans to return to Bowman and looks forward to being a role model that students can look up to for assistance, guidance and education.

Brittney Walker - Canyon

A member of the varsity girl's basketball team, Brittney volunteers for the Boys & Girls Club, the senior center, and plans to establish an organization to help teens who are struggling to stay alive in violent and gang-dominated neighborhoods. "I want to show them a new way to live and encourage them to walk over stereotypes and road blocks," she says.

Daniel Crescenti - Hart

An accomplished BMX rider, Daniel also helped found the Hart Young Democrats, spent two years in England, helped raise $1,502 for the Anti-Defamation League, and is headed to UC Irvine. When he heard of the racism rumors earlier this year, he helped organize an Anti-Racism Concert to raise awareness of the discrimination. Post-college plans include law school.
