On Saturday, November 17, Oak Tree Gun Club and the Jacob Zamora Memorial Foundation will host the 15th-annual Jacob Anthony Zamora Memorial Shoot in honor of a very special young man who was gone too soon. On November 22, 2003, the Canyon High grad who aspired to be a CHP officer was involved in an accident while working at Oak Tree; the utility vehicle he was driving went off the road and he died from his injuries. A committed community member, Zamora achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and was a Sergeant in the CHP Explorer program with Newhall Post 540. His family and friends are committed to continuing his good work in his hometown and beyond in his honor. The foundation in his name continues to support CHP Explorer posts 540 Newhall and 545 Antelope Valley and has an outreach fund for families who have suffered tragedies. In the last six years, they have awarded scholarships totaling $45,000 to Santa Clarita Valley high school seniors.
