We asked 2020 SCV's Graduates to reflect on the school year - and share their thoughts as they look ahead to the future. Here is what they said...
In addition to their regular studies, extracurriculars and college prep, our graduating class also learned to persevere through wildfires, evacuations, a devastating campus shooting and a global pandemic that changed the entire educational system on a dime. After a year when our students overcame more than ever, they deserve a celebration commensurate of their strength, courage and achievements. That's exactly why Inside SCV Magazine wanted to do something extra special for the Class of 2020.
This fall, I'll celebrate my 20th year as a professor. The best parts of my job are my "co-workers," the students who join me every week to do the hard work of changing thought processes, understanding how symbols are used and abused in our culture and learning how to advocate for self and others.
In 2007, I was honored to be named Santa Clarita's "Woman of the Year." It feels like a lifetime ago - because it was. Kyle and I have since weathered numerous storms, including losing his brother, Keith; thriving through an autism diagnosis for our son; and, well, life.
All of a sudden, I was without my people.
Words do not adequately express the emotional impact that the pandemic has had on this teacher - and I know I'm not alone. Teachers nationwide are in the same boat.
Simply - we miss our kids.
I am honored to join in the celebration of your success, and recognize the effort, sacrifice, resilience and commitment you invested to make your graduation possible.

Classrooms are magical spaces. The right one can spark a lifelong passion, change a career path and even shape a belief system. All within the safety of four inspired walls, you can explore faraway worlds, travel back in time, envision a new future ... or simply play in the present. And with the SCV spirit you'd expect, our local schools, teachers and parents are making sure nothing gets in the way of a little classroom magic.
Enrichment, friendships, adventure and more are in store for your kids this summer.
Chances are, you've already heard Brady White's name. The star quarterback for the Memphis Tigers, he's a regular feature on TV sets, in college-sports write ups and topic among local SCV kids who hope to follow in his footsteps.

Consider three types of safety when choosing a school for your child.
In the fall of 1969, College of the Canyons opened for its first term of classes. Thirty-one faculty taught 735 students in the late afternoons and evenings at Hart High School, which the college used that first year before moving into portable buildings at the current Valencia campus. Our first graduating class numbered 16.
When it comes to education, character should count.
Parenting is rarely easy, but when it comes to selecting your child's school, things can seem downright overwhelming. "It's not an overstatement to say that this is one of the most important choices a parent will make," sympathizes Tim "Coach" Borruel, co-founder and superintendent emeritus of Legacy Christian Academy, a pedagogical innovator with 35 years experience developing educational programs for Santa Clarita.
The sweet grouping of Kindergartners patiently sat around the large conference table, eager to share their thoughts. Just a few moments prior, their teacher had let them in on exciting news: A reporter wanted to speak with them about their school.

For an increasing number of parents, the "public school down the street" isn't the top choice for where their children get their educational start. "As options expand and parents find that there are campuses that better match their educational and/or faith preferences, moms and dads are doing more research before enrolling their child based on their address instead of their desired learning outcomes," says local education expert and Legacy Christian Academy Head of School Matt Millett.
