Girl Power Gains Ground in Education
Long gone are the days of talking Barbies dissing math. Today's girls are excelling in STEM, "leaning forward" into leadership positions and taking full advantage of a broad array of educational opportunities.

College of the Canyons Women's Conference
to "Blossom and Bloom" March 28
The 2015 College of the Canyons Women's Conference "Blossom and Bloom: Cultivating Your Personal Growth," will be held from 8am to 3pm Saturday, March 28, in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, located on the college's Valencia campus (University Center Drive entrance).

"The focus of this year's event is reaching out to multiple generations of women. We have sessions for middle and high school girls, college and professional women as well as mature adults," said Dr. Diane Fiero, assistant superintendent/vice president, Human Resources at the college. Acknowledging topics that lead to professional success and personal satisfaction, this year's Women's Conference focuses on the following key information strands:

The Generations - social media for young women; hands-on robotics; managing relationships; planning for financial success; and the "sandwich generation."

Cultivating Your Life Passions - cultivating your passions, values and creativity; health at all ages; healing from loss; and work/life balance.

Career and Personal Branding - insights and advice from a panel of professionals from Boston Scientific; insights and advice from a panel of women business owners; career interest assessment; presentation on using LinkedIn for professional success.

Also included among the event's scheduled activities are a buffet breakfast, "ladies tea" themed luncheon and shopping boutique.

The keynote speaker for this year's Women's Conference is Lisa Welker-Finney, vice president of Human Resources at Boston Scientific Neuromodulation (BSN). Already a well-known speaker, she is currently writing a new book on the topic of leadership.

General admission to the 2015 College of the Canyons Women's Conference is $30 through Sunday, March 15. After that date tickets will be $35. Admission for all students is $20 (identification required).

Legacy Girls Softball Knocks it Out of the Park
When the Santa Clarita Athletic Independent League (SCAIL) added a girls softball league to the lineup four years ago, little did the coaches at SCAIL-founding-school-member Legacy Christian Academy know that their team would score the championship title four times in a row! Much of the credit goes to Legacy pitcher Jenna Rorick and the dedication of every player, most of whom had zero softball experience prior to joining the team. Parental involvement and support has been instrumental in the team's incredible success, too. Legacy softball players also have a very special role model in Princeton student and Legacy graduate Haley Hineman, who attended West Ranch and now plays on Princeton's softball team. Go Lions!
