Two very STEM Summers at Legacy Christian Academy
Students and parents at Legacy Christian Academy are already growing in excitement about the 2017-18 school year because this summer, work crews are building a brand-new, immersive, hands-on Science Lab.
The enthusiasm is familiar; last summer, the Legacy team was similarly invested in building the campus's new Innovation Lab. The Innovation Lab is homebase for computer, web and graphic design classes for the kinder-to-eighth-grade campus. Every child at Legacy learns in the high-tech space, which is reminiscent of an Apple store thanks to its sleek design, glass-like work surfaces that can be raised up and down with the touch of a button, 28 powerful computers with flat-panel LCD monitors, an 85-inch giant HD touchscreen, four 4K flatscreen TVs that display student work, a document camera, write-on wall panels and so much more. The space was created with learning and collaboration in mind and is where Legacy's celebrated Robotics team practices for upcoming tournaments.
Now Legacy is building a new Science Lab from the ground up to ensure that the space can best accommodate the newest technology and features like massive aquariums and terrariums. This Science Lab will rival the best on any public or private preparatory campus, thanks to the community of Legacy families and supporters.

"For years now, Legacy has provided an excellent STEM education," explains Tim Borruel, Legacy's superintendent and co-founder. "The new Science Lab confirms our dedication to providing our students with the finest educational experiences, curriculum, programming and practice in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. We're well aware of the career trends towards and global needs for STEM experts and we're proud that Legacy students thrive in these fields not only when they are on our campus, but in high school, college and beyond."
"What is so exciting about the Science Lab opening in the fall is how it cultivates an immersive experience for our students," shares Legacy Co-founder Donna Borruel. "When they walk into the room, every sense will be engaged. If they're learning, for example, about the ocean, the space will 'become' the ocean floor. They'll hear the sounds of the ocean while realistic imagery travels over the ceiling and wall space, putting them 'in' the zone they are studying. They'll do experiments with sea water while observing sea creatures in our aquarium. We're engaging every part of their brain, every learning style, to optimize their ability to innovate, create, learn and critically engage."

Four Ways Math Support Services Adds Up

1. The Math Support Services team members are experts in providing the scaffolding for current trends in curriculum, specializing in providing enrichment in the area of STEAM. You can sign your child up now for fall classes that can transfer to their home school in math and science; schedule tutoring for math (fifth grade through calculus) or science (Choose from biology, chemistry or physics.); earn a higher score on standardized tests with their SAT/ACT test prep; or even get a jump start on fall classes to ensure that necessary pre-req skills are sharp before the first day of school.

2. Even the cost adds up nicely; Math Support offers zero-interest financing for six, 12 and 18 months.

3. Math Support provides a safe place for all students to learn math, benefiting highly-gifted, special needs and main-stream students who aspire to be college bound. Students enjoy their warm, welcoming environment and highly-qualified staff.

A First-hand Account of the "Why" Behind SCVi
by Amber Raskin

It's back-to-school time and, for many parents, the search is still underway for the perfect place to send their kids. Like you, when it came to my daughter Samantha's education, the status quo simply wasn't good enough.
That's why co-founder Dawn Evenson and I started Santa Clarita Valley International, a public, tuition-free Kinder-to-12th charter school. At SCVi, we design our programs around the expectation that 21st-century kids will become entrepreneurs, leaders and game changers. SCVi is a small liberal arts high school that prepares students for the 21st century by offering more individualized attention and coaching in a nurturing environment. The arts programs - which Samantha and her friends cherished - also help them find the right fit for college. Our students have gone on to attend colleges including Cal Arts, Franklin & Marshall, Berkeley and UCLA. And, just this year, Samantha was accepted to Sarah Lawrence University in New York. We hope you'll take the time to tour our school - even if you've been here before - and meet with one of our college counselors. Thank you for considering SCVi, and we hope to see you soon!
