SCVi Students Building a House for Homeless Veteran
Fourth and fifth graders at Santa Clarita Valley International School are asking for the community's assistance with fundraising for a "tiny house" they are building for a homeless veteran.

The project - being guided by renowned "tiny house" designer and local philanthropist Elvis Summers - initially was to complete a safe, durable, sustainable and appealing home in any area of the world, considering landforms and natural disasters. Through this planning process, SCVi's students created blueprints, supply lists, budgets and scale models of their tiny homes.

As the project evolved, the students decided to build a real "tiny house" for a veteran in need - a decision that will not only extend their learning, but also provide them with the experience that comes with giving back.

"It's critically important to remember veterans in our communities who are struggling financially and emotionally," says Amber Raskin, founder of iLEAD Schools. "That's why our amazing young learners at SCVi are asking for help to raise funds for this important project that will change a veteran's life."

"We need supplies including building materials, tools and furnishings," SCVi Facilitator Tina Toval says. "Our school, families and learners would be so grateful to receive these funds and help a veteran who deserves a tiny home built with love."

"Legacy Christian Academy has been a part of our lives for over eight years. When our oldest son started preschool, we began searching for a school that would not only provide an excellent education, but also a safe and loving environment. It only took one tour of Legacy to convince us that this school was the perfect choice. After seven years and now three children enrolled, we have never regretted our decision. Our children love going to school! They leave our car with smiles on their faces in the morning and return at the end of the school day with stories of all they did that day. Legacy's academics speak for themselves. The students are challenged when things get too easy and encouraged when they get difficult. Equally as important, Legacy is helping instill in our kids values that will stay with them for a lifetime. They are being taught to be confident leaders who are kind and compassionate. We are so grateful for being a part of this amazing school!"
