Legacy Christian's High School Program to Offer Advanced Mathematics Track
Opening for the first time for ninth grade students this fall, Legacy's high school is continuing the Academy's tradition of accelerated academics with the campus's math track.
Legacy's existing Kinder-through-eighth grade Academy set the stage with a unique distinction: many learners take Algebra 1 in seventh grade, thanks to Legacy's award-winning teachers, curriculum, resources and small class sizes. "Because Legacy's mathematics program is so strong, a large proportion of our students are on an accelerated mathematics track," explains Sam Minyard, LCA's academic dean for grades sixth through ninth. "In local public schools, the earliest a child may be able to enroll in that level is eighth grade."
Because of the leap, Legacy learners are positioned for an exceptional - and highly unusual - opportunity: to take three AP math classes in high school. "Students who choose to will be able to take AP Calculus AB and BC, as well as AP Statistics at Legacy Christian High School," says Minyard.
"Beyond the academic benefits, we know that this track will get the attention of the most competitive universities," says Head of School Matt Millett. "Children who are drawn to STEAM careers will have a massive head start with this track."
While not all learners will opt for the most rigorous mathematics courses, every student will benefit from Legacy's bar-setting academics. "In our public high schools, there are often 39 students in a class," says Minyard, who served Saugus High School for two decades. "Even the most dedicated teachers struggle to provide personalized instruction and adequate opportunities to measure and adapt to each child's unique strengths and weaknesses. Legacy's student/teacher ratio of 1 to 13 gives us the ability to deeply invest in each student. Legacy sets high standards - but also gives learners the tools and support to achieve them."

SCVi Adds Two More Career Technical Education Pathways
This fall, SCVi will add two exciting Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways to launch students' college and career pursuits in entrepreneurship and engineering technology. Imagine knowing you can get a head start in the games industry, prepare to be a theme park VR technician, start your own motion-capture business, or simply manage your own acting career. CTE programs are designed to combine academic and industry knowledge to prepare students for college and career in fields of their dreams.
A CTE pathway involves introductory, concentrator and capstone courses as well as portfolio development and internships. While the entrepreneurship pathway is geared toward the arts, students will also learn and practice the essential skills for starting, maintaining and marketing any business. The engineering technology pathway provides hands-on design practices, from drones to animatronics to computer programming, preparing learners for production in immersive entertainment.

Blend of In-Person & Online Courses Designed to Help Students Get Back on Track in Fall
With hundreds of in-person classes available during the fall 2021 semester, College of the Canyons is offering students and community members the opportunity to get back on track toward earning a degree or preparing for a new career.
Starting May 24, students and community members can choose from nearly 2,000 sections in a wide range of academic subjects and career education disciplines.
To help accommodate the needs and preferences of students, the college will continue to offer classes in a variety of online hybrid formats.
"We are very excited to be expanding the number of in-person classes offered during our fall semester," said College of the Canyons Chancellor Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook. "As the tide continues to turn toward safe, face-to-face interaction, we are ready and eager to welcome our students back on campus. Their health and safety remains our top priority."
The majority of class sections offered will be courses that most students need to either graduate or meet prerequisites for transfer to a four-year school.
In addition, high school juniors and seniors can take advantage of fall classes to earn college and high school credit while taking classes at COC with waived enrollment fees.
High school students in 11th and 12th grade can begin registering June 23. A final late registration period for all students will begin June 28.
The schedule also features more than 150 classes offered through the college's School of Personal and Professional Learning (PPL), which provides career skills and lifelong learning classes to residents of all ages and skill levels, at no cost.
Some PPL classes being offered in the summer include English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, human resources, GED preparation, career skills, computer skills, health, Spanish for healthcare workers and certification training classes for Maya and Adobe software. If not held on campus, fall classes will be held in the following formats.
OnlineLive These classes will be held via Zoom on the days and times listed on the class schedule. Students will not be able to register for two classes at the same time.
Online These classes will not meet live.They give students the flexibility to complete instruction at their convenience.
The fall 2021 semester starts on August 23 and ends on December 11. Enrollment fees at all 116 California Community Colleges will remain at $46 per unit, as mandated by the state of California. canyons.edu
