The Master's University Adds New Agribusiness Program
The Master's University has launched a new program for students who desire a career in the vital agriculture industry.
Agribusiness is a new emphasis within TMU's business administration program. The emphasis builds on TMU's solid business core with specialized courses in Agricultural Management, Agricultural Products and Agricultural Policy.
Dr. Mitch Hopewell, TMU's provost and chief academic officer, is particularly excited about the program's field study component.
"Our students will travel around California and go to Christian-owned agricultural operations," Hopewell said. "They're going to be able to see large and small-scale agricultural operations owned and led by believers who model what it means to put Christ first in all things."
TMU was motivated to add this emphasis by a constituency that is already actively involved in the agriculture sector.
"When it comes to serving our students, we want to add degrees not for the sake of academic prestige or chasing the latest trend, but for the sake of serving our students and preparing them for a lifetime of faithfulness to Christ in specific areas," Hopewell said.

Do Good this Year
SCV residents Violet, 14, and her brother Ian, 12, have a genetic disease called Primary Immunodeficiency Disease (PIDD). This disease does not allow their bodies' immune system to produce enough antibodies to fight off a variety of infections. While there is not a cure for PIDD, Violet and Ian rely on weekly blood plasma infusions every week.
Because their lives depend on blood products, Violet's and Ian's family has been hosting blood drives for the last nine years. Ready to roll up your sleeves for these young neighbors - and other children at Children's Hospital Los Angeles? Attend the blood drive on Sunday, January 29 from 7am to 1:30pm at 24933 Avenue Stanford in Valencia. To schedule an appointment for the blood drive, log onto chladonateblood.org and enter sponsor code PFVISMITH.
Legacy's Kinder Builds a Strong Foundation in Children's Lives
At Legacy Christian Academy, kindergarteners spend their day immersed in a wide variety of activities and opportunities to play and learn. Students begin with a morning routine that may include phonics and penmanship practice. Next, they move into leveled small-group rotations for reading and math. Legacy's small group rotations foster additional growth and core-concept reinforcement. After lunch, students work on writing and social studies and attend a variety of enrichment classes.
LCA Kindergarten is an all-inclusive, Christ-centered, family-oriented program where students are challenged at all levels to be the best version of themselves.
One example of this: Legacy places an incredible emphasis on developing public speaking skills. Academy kindergarteners are given many opportunities to recite poetry and scripture in front of their classmates, as well as to present various projects. Parents enjoy seeing their students grow into confident speakers.
The Legacy experience is customized to each child's gifts and areas where they need extra support. In contrast, California's public kindergarten classes regularly pack 33 students to a room, often forcing the teacher to spend more time on behavior management than curriculum. At Legacy Christian Academy, class sizes are much smaller - and benefit from an assistant teacher - resulting in a 13-to-one student-to-teacher ratio.
