Legacy Students Take Classroom Lessons into the Field
Spring overnight trips are a Legacy Christian Academy tradition, reinforcing and complementing classroom lessons with practical, hands-on experiences.
"The spring overnight trips provide a unique opportunity for our students to grow outside of the traditional, day-to-day classroom environment. The hands-on activities and real life experiences of each of our trips bring the subject matter to life," explains George Lopez, elementary dean of activities and spiritual life at Legacy.
Legacy fourth graders head to our state capital, Sacramento; fifth graders make their way to Riley's Farm to study the living history of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars; sixth graders are off to Astro Camp; seventh grade students take to the ocean for Catalina Island Marine Camp; and eighth graders experience Hume SoCal Outdoor Adventure Camp.
Not only do students get to experience the grade-level curriculum through a new perspective, they build lasting memories with their classmates. "We love to provide these fun trips for our students that not only serve as effective learning experiences, but are also great culminating events for the school year that encourage student camaraderie."

TMU Student Serves as Intern for US Congressman
Rachel Culver, a student at The Master's University, is currently working as an intern for United States Representative Mike Garcia. Congressman Garcia is in his second term as a House Representative and currently serves on the subcommittees of Defense, Justice, Energy and Water Development. Working in Garcia's district office in Santa Clarita, Culver supports the staff through policy reports, project management, meetings with local officials and administrative tasks.
"I have the opportunity to exemplify Christ as I answer phones and speak with constituents," said Culver, a senior political studies major. "I get to be a small piece of their story as they look for answers." Culver views a biblical worldview as a necessary foundation for a future career in law. That was a deciding factor in enrolling at TMU.
"At TMU, we are equipped with the knowledge and the skills to be effective ambassadors and ministers of reconciliation to a broken and dying world," Culver said. "My greatest prayer is that the Lord would use my gifts and talents for His glory."

Canyon Theatre Guild Presents New Summer Youth Workshops
Is your young actor destined to take the stage? Give them the best summer ever with the Youth Theatre Institute at Canyon Theatre Guild! The CTG summer workshop program has been producing shows for almost 25 years with instructors who are theatre professionals, award winning teachers and working actors.
Your young thespians will experience the magic and fun of live theatre: singing, dancing, acting and working together. Participants get the full experience of putting on a show on the main stage, complete with costumes, makeup, mics and more. With sessions from June to August, there will be workshops for children of all ages.
CTG Kids
CTG Kids features students reading age to 10 years old. They'll perform "Superheros, Social Skills & How To Interact with Human Beings." The superheros have a problem. With the help of human beings all over the city, they'll learn the importance of not just being superheroes, but super people.
CTG Juniors
Students 10 to 13 years old will have a musical experience: "Mystery at the
Monster Prom." The trophy for the big dance competition's gone missing! Baffled by the strange evidence, DJ Boogieman calls in human detective Jamie James to solve the case with the help of a lot of strange and fun monsters.
CTG Stars
Teens ages 13 to 17 will perform a musical based on the Disney classic, "Finding Nemo Jr." With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves.

Greg Herrick to Receive Hall of Fame Honors
Recently retired College of the Canyons women's basketball coach Greg Herrick, who guided the program to 611 career wins, has been selected for induction into the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) Hall of Fame.
The announcement was made at the organization's annual meeting earlier this month with induction scheduled for spring 2024.
Herrick's 30-year career at the college included 16 Western State Conference (WSC), South Division Championships (1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2018) in 29 seasons. Canyons did not compete during the 2020-21 year due to cancellations brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He left the program in June 2022 boasting a career record of 611-288, good for a .680 winning percentage. Herrick's teams also qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Regional Postseason in 24 seasons, including a run of 21 straight appearances from 1994-2014.
Herrick was named the WSC, South Coach of the Year on 10 occasions. Along the way his players have earned 27 All-State selections, 12 Conference Player of the Year Awards and one State Player of the Year award.
"It's always nice to be recognized for the hard work and the commitment that goes with being a coach, especially when it's by your peers," said Herrick. "My original intention when I took over the program in 1992 was to successfully compete with the state's best programs," he said. "I believe we accomplished that and more by building our program into one of the state's very best. Any honors that I may receive as a result of that," added Herrick, "I share with the many players I was fortunate enough to coach."
