Legacy's Middle School Students Benefit from Campus' Media Lab Spaces & Courses
Cory Gilbride, Legacy's media director, knows a thing or two about inspiring today's learners to critically think and craft real-world solutions - all while using today's best technology to tell stories that can shape their world. The longtime educator has informed and instructed Legacy's Media Lab course lineup, which is heavily rooted in the ethics of digital citizenship.
The course selection includes IMT (information, media, technology), which covers everything from Google docs to designing a floor plan using CAD software, filming a commercial using advertising techniques and conversations about internet scams, cyberbullying and more. In the Digital Photography class, students learn how to compose images, use manual settings and edit images in Adobe Photoshop. In Video Production, students learn the process of planning and script writing, directing and operating a film camera and using editing software like Final Cut Pro. The LCA-TV class is a student-led news program that sees students write, film and edit a 15-to-20 minute episode. This usually contains news anchors, interviews, event coverage, short films, gameshows and a segment where they interview local businesses around the Santa Clarita Valley.
It's all set in tech-forward classroom space that boasts premium upgrades like a photo/video studio with interchangeable backdrops, professional lighting and even a teleprompter; a sound-treated voice recording booth complete with professional recording equipment; high-powered video-editing computers; and one-to-one MacBook Pro laptops for photo editing.
Parents, students, faculty and staff are able to enjoy the completed works of the media courses, as well as LCA's celebrated theater productions, in Legacy's upgraded MPR theater space that has a massive 22-foot wide LED video wall; upgraded pro sound system; full theater lighting; multiple broadcast cameras and a live-production video switcher.

Tuition-free & Transformational Education is Available at iLEAD
For 15 years, iLEAD Schools' tuition-free, public charter schools have designed and implemented a transformational education model focused on personalized, project-based and social-emotional learning with two seat-based options to choose from in the Santa Clarita Valley.
SCVi iLEAD's founding school located on the west side of Santa Clarita, offers dual-language immersion, award-winning arts education, International Baccalaureate and aerospace-focused learning.
iLEAD Agua Dulce on the east side of Santa Clarita, offers the International Baccalaureate career programme (IBCP), a state-of-the-art exploratorium, outdoor classrooms and a farm-to-table garden program.
iLEAD Exploration Hybrid provides homeschool families with a credentialed teacher (facilitator) who assigns and creates a customized, individualized learning plan each year based on grade-level standards and the learner's passions. Instructional funds are used to support and enhance each learner's education.
All three schools are proudly accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). At iLEAD Schools, they are passionate about project-based learning because it goes to the very heart of how students learn. They want our learners to think for themselves.

InsideSCV's Field Trip of the Season: Children's Garden at The Huntington
Here's why we love the Children's Garden at The Huntington: tons of splash fountains and rocky stream scapes; misters for rainbow chasing; fairy doors and topiary animals; gorgeous greenscapes; and plenty that will inspire a lifelong love of nature!
You can easily spend an entire afternoon in this space - bring water shoes, a clothing change, sunblock and snacks! - but the rest of the expansive property is also welcoming to little learners.
It's a quick drive from the SCV to San Marino and gives you an excuse to enjoy one of nearby downtown Pasadena's famous ramen shops or award-winning restaurants on the way home.

Keep your Small Children Learning & Creating this Summer
Snap a Picture
Invest in a "kid camera" that prints low-resolution black and white images so that your child can share their own point of view. There are video-recording versions available, too! These cameras are affordable, sturdy and simple to use for most kids 3 and up - and they're such a fun way to preserve memories. Hand one to your child while they're playing at home, during vacation or while running errands. You'll be surprised at what they capture - and the interesting conversations that come from letting your little ones participate in photography and videography.
Fill a Busy Box
Head to the local dollar store for all-in-one craft kits, stickers, notebooks and cheap art supplies to fill a just-for-them "busy box" that can be pulled out any time boredom sets in and you need non-tech backup. Will it be messy? A little. But will it keep them occupied long enough for you to secretly eat an ice cream while scrolling Instagram and hiding in the pantry so you don't have to share? Probably.
Just Add Water
Who needs traditional bath time when kiddie pools are less than $20 and your kitchen utensil drawer is overflowing with soup ladles and whisks you never use? Combine cleanliness and water fun with what's already on hand to help develop hand-eye coordination, imaginary play skills and physical exhaustion so that they sleep better at night and you can enjoy your second ice cream cone in front of the TV like the ice cream gods intended.
