The Carousel Ranch Story
August, 2018 - Issue #167

"They strive to create an atmosphere
where every student can and will succeed -
a place where therapy is disguised as FUN."
Carousel Ranch is a community treasure that changes lives. Dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with special needs, this nonprofit organization has provided developmental therapeutic and recreational programs for children with special needs through equestrian therapy for more than two decades. Through both their equestrian therapy and vocational training programs, they strive to create an atmosphere where every student can and will succeed - a place where therapy is disguised as fun.

Mission Valley Bank has stood beside Carousel Ranch nearly every step of the way since the bank's formation. From assisting with the financing of their property to the launch of their newest program - the Ready to Work vocational training program - the support and guidance provided has been instrumental in the nonprofit's growth.

"It's hard to remember a time when Mission Valley Bank wasn't a key part of Carousel Ranch," said Denise Redmond, executive director of Carousel Ranch. "Our relationship with MVB goes far deeper than sponsorship support or donation dollars. They have been a long-standing supporter and trusted advisor to the ranch. Mission Valley Bank took a leap of faith when they entrusted us with a loan to purchase our permanent home in 2005. We know first-hand that their management team believes strongly in our staff, mission and ability to grow our programs. They are a business bank that sets an outstanding example for the true meaning of corporate responsibility and giving back to the community."

At the forefront of how they do business, Mission Valley Bank puts the community into community banking. The bank's local roots run deep, motivated by the desire to be an integral part of the area they serve. A strong community thrives on personal relationships and Mission Valley Bank supports - and is honored to be supported by - the Santa Clarita Valley.

"Mission Valley Bank first met the founders of Carousel Ranch as a client," said Marianne Cederlind, executive vice president and chief business banking officer. "It didn't take long until we were as committed to their success as they were, which is how we are with all our clients."

Mission Valley Bank is more than just another local bank. They are a full-service, independent, commercial bank that is locally-owned, community minded and relationship driven. They're proud to have earned their reputation as Trusted Advisors. Mission Valley Bank is as dedicated to their customers' success as they are. They appreciate their business and welcome the opportunity to earn yours.

What is Ready to Work?
Ready to Work is an innovative, creative approach to vocational training for young adults with special needs. The program has two components. The first is a classroom-based curriculum that teaches soft skills needed to be successful in the workplace: clocking in, learning to wear a uniform, how to work as a team, having appropriate behavior, being flexible, having a positive attitude and more. Students complete a resume, learn and practice interview skills. Next, the classroom curriculum is brought to life through actual work in the Tack Shack/Snack Shack social enterprise, which is run by the students, as well as various jobs around the ranch. By the time students complete the program, they have done a variety of work - from horse and ranch care to vehicle washing, construction to office work, retail, food service, cashiering and so much more. There's even a Ready to Grow garden. The community has embraced Ready to Work. Several have found meaningful employment while others are volunteering and working toward job placement.

In the words of Dianna Boone, mother of Ready to Work student Jimmy, "The Ready to Work program has given us new hope. The doctor insisted that Jimmy would never be able to work and support himself. Staff has done an incredible job and it is literally life altering for my son. Jimmy gained skills, confidence, knowledge and appropriate workplace behavior, an excellent work ethic and is now work-ready. Thank you for this viable, critical program that has set my son up for success in life!"
