This Month, Why don't You...
Get your cycle on?
We have a confession: Our "get ready for bathing-suit season" fitness kick off didn't sprout as planned in spring (We blame it on the temperature. Brrr!). It withered through the summer (Again, the temperature. Heat wave!) and is now mocking us as we head into fall. We feel renewed hope for next bathing-suit season, however, because Spokes Indoor Cycling just opened. Locally owned and totally cool (Literally. Thank you, air conditioning!), Spokes offers certified instructors and super-high-tech Keiser M3 bikes that boast back-lit computers (Voila! It keeps track of your workouts so you don't have to.). Your first ride is free, so take advantage of a no-risk way to give 'em a try. Spokes is conveniently located right off the Cross Valley Connector and is offering exceptional buy-one-get-one-free grand opening deals; 291-1196
Learn to better connect with your teen?
Sigh. We know. "Easier said. Than done." But life with a teen doesn't have to be all about slammed doors and missed curfews. (So we've heard, anyway.) Personally, we can't wait to attend this year's Teen Scene Unplugged: Navigating the Teenage Years. (Will they give us a compass with directional notes like, "Drama Ahead" and "Thank God that's Behind You?" We really hope so.) Meet us there (And bring your teen. Won't it be nice to know where they are for once?) on Wednesday, September 14 at the Golden Valley High School theater. The City of Santa Clarita's Blue Ribbon Task Force will also provide a Resource Fair (from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.) to precede the presentation (which runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.). The event is free; 250-3708 www.santa-clarita.com
Host a poker party for your favorite nonprofit?
Ah, the nonprofit conundrum. Spending money is easy. Raising it? Not so much. We're nearly certain that your favorite PTA, service group, youth club, school, animal rescue or faith organization could use some extra cash. Which is - yes - where you come in. Hosting a poker party, or helping put one on, is easy - when you have professional help. MVP Tournament Poker is a passionate fundraising partner. Whether you can fill one table or 30, they'll provide all the equipment - even lessons and a dealer. Many packages are available (starting at only $125!) and they all come with the experience and know-how to make your tiny, medium or grand event a real success; 313-4089
