This Doggy Fashion Show is the Cat's Meow
Don't Miss Rescues on the Runway on Saturday, November 17

Rescues on the Runway combines fashion, shopping, fun and - most importantly - "match making" between guests and, perhaps, their future furry "soulmate!" Help save shelter animals (more than 100 rescues will be available for adoption) while you enjoy a fun night out. First, shop the Holiday & Pet Boutique, open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. (free to the public). Then "Meet the Rescues" from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. (free to the public) as 100 dogs and cats strut their stuff down the runway in hopes of melting your heart. Dinner begins with the Doggie Contest and Celebrity Catwalk at 6 p.m. (Pups entered in the Doggie Contest are invited to attend the dinner show with their owners.). Dinner seats are $75; Theatre seats are $35; Doggie Contest entries are $25 per pup. "Lassie" will star in the Celebrity Walk and serve as the presenter for the "Top Dog" award. The judges will be looking for Best Photo, Best Smile, Best Coat, Best Eyes, Best Ears, Best Bark, Best Talent and overall Top Dog, awarding prizes and trophies along the way. Registration online is easy and helping animals in need is even easier. Proceeds from the event help save our furry friends from high-kill shelters and provides animals with care, dignity and - hopefully - "forever homes." Volunteers, donations, vendors and silent auction items are appreciated. Guests are invited to bring blankets, pet food and supplies for the "Hope" basket. 252-3232 www.rescuesontherunway.com

Hosting Fabulous Kids Parties No Longer a "Mystery"
When you Book SCV's Favorite Kids Entertainer

Mr. Mystery performs a colorful show where every child is guaranteed to laugh. The wonder of magic, silliness of comedy and interactive nature of Mr. Mystery's show keeps children on the edge of their seats. Watch your kids' faces light up as they see things disappear and reappear. His signature mascot, Rocky the Raccoon, starts the show with a bang; children and adults will howl with laughter! This is "eye candy" magic comedy at its best. Have your cameras ready, parents! You'll get some terrific pictures of the kids laughing the entire 40-minute show. It'll be a birthday your child, family and friends will fondly remember for years to come. The Mr. Mystery show features lots of audience participation and the birthday party child is the star. Plus, the "games package" includes 20 additional minutes of hilarious and fun games that children will love. Every child will learn and receive a free magic trick at the end of the show, too. Take $50 off your party with mention of Inside SCV Magazine through

Meet Sergio Mendoza!
"My experience at Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts (SCSOPA) has been amazing. Ever since my big move from Colorado, my acting hadn't gotten me any good jobs. I had been in the background in TV shows: "So Random" and "Rob." I have also done extra work on two movies: "Monsters and Me" and "A Very Jewish Christmas." But it all changed when I started attending Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts and received the help and direction of the amazing teachers (Especially the best one of them all, Mr. Mike!). With Mr. Mike's help and support, I got an agent, Bill, at Commercial Talent. He has sent me out on a lot of auditions. I have booked a TV show (It's a pilot - no title yet.) directed by Ryan Hailey. All my thanks go to Mr. Mike and all my amazing teachers at Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts. Thank you so much!" ~ Sergio Mendoza, 11

Fall is Here: Don't Let Safety Come at a High Price for Pets
While many look forward to the cool temperatures, shorter days with longer nights and holidays rapidly approaching, we can't forget about our beloved four-legged companions. Here's a few safety tips that will save you a trip to your local vet:

Wow, it's Dark Outside
The days are getting shorter, especially on November 4, when we "fall back" and lose an hour of daylight. When going for evening walks, remember to not only wear light-colored clothes for yourself, but get some safety gear for Fido as well. A white tee-shirt for some is great, while others may prefer purchasing reflective vests, collars or leashes. Don't forget to bring a flashlight for safety and maybe even a blinking light to put on Fido's collar as well. You can visit www.thedogoutdoors.com to find some great safety equipment.

Don't Eat That!
The holidays go hand in hand with yummy treats, but remember that your pooch can't handle too much without getting very sick. Eating chocolate for a dog can be life threatening. If your dog eats chocolate, contact your vet immediately or go straight to your nearest veterinary emergency hospital. Keep it simple and stick with your dog's regular food or go to a local boutique store to find a special, dog-safe treat.

Keep Kitty Inside
It's difficult to believe, but every year emergency vets still have cases of cat abuse during this season. Be safe; keep Kitty inside.

Where's Your List?
Keep a list of phone numbers posted on a conspicuous place (Fridge?) that contains the phone numbers of your family veterinarian; your after-hours emergency vet and ASPCA Poison Control (888-426-4435; fee applies).
