You won't Believe the Age your Child should See an Orthodontist
When we were kids, "braces" went hand in hand with teen angst and acne. That's why it's surprising to many parents that the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child see an orthodontist by the age of 7. Don't freak out just yet - the operative word here is "see," not necessarily "treat."
Why the seemingly-early appointment? Because most kids start to get their first permanent teeth around 6 and have a "bite relationship" set by age 7, when they also start getting their permanent front teeth. It is important that the orthodontist sees how a child is biting, because if there are problems, it is much easier and more comfortable for the child to correct it at this age.
Most kids won't need any treatment, but if yours does, there's happy news. Headgear is out, Invisalign is in - even for small children. So - get those appointments scheduled... because you'll save yourself a bigger financial investment, and your child unnecessary discomfort, with an early start.

"For as long as we could remember, my son Jayden would pretend to be people he saw in commercials. Whether he was pretending to be the pizza-delivery guy or the kid playing with the latest toys, he would even make us part of the act. So when a friend mentioned that, with his bubbly personality and cute smile, Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts would be a great place for him to learn what it takes to be on TV and we had to check it out. Since coming to SCSOPA three years ago, we have watched Jayden grow in confidence and skills. He has even improved in his ability to read before an audience. We can attribute that to the excellent teaching staff here at SCSOPA. The staff is filled with teachers currently working as actors in the industry so they stay current and relevant with tips and tricks of the trade. Once Jayden was determined to be performance ready, SCSOPA was instrumental in helping him obtain a great agent. Most recently, Jayden was featured on 'The Late, Late Show with James Corden' and in an Amazon commercial. We are excited for Jayden's future in the industry and grateful to SCOPA for helping Jayden achieve his dream."

Embarking on a Child Custody Evaluation? Read this First
If your separation or divorce includes a high-conflict contested child custody/visitation element, be ready for the court to appoint a mental health professional to assist with the case - or to conduct a child custody evaluation and/or psychological evaluation. Here's what you should know:
You don't have to go into this "blind." You can hire your own psychological expert to provide you coaching for your evaluation. Your attorney should also be coaching you on the do's and don'ts, as well as what to do and say during the interview and the home inspection process.
The evaluator's summary is not binding, but it is powerful evidence that will inform the custodial schedule for your child. Don't like the findings? You can subpoena the evaluator, pay their expert witness fee and have your attorney cross examine them if you think they left out important information, included false information or didn't reach out to people who you feel have highly-relevant data on your children or other parent.
Be ready to provide relevant, up-to-date contact information for the evaluator. Your master list should include teachers, neighbors, treating physicians, therapists - and possibly even sitters and other family members. Talk to your lawyer about other possibilities, especially if there are witnesses to inappropriate or abusive behaviors.
