"We have been attending Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts since June 2019. At first, we were skeptical as we attended acting school before and have been scammed. Mike and his staff have displayed only kindness and professionalism towards our family. The staff is incredibly educated in the industry and only wants the best for us. We were able to obtain an agent as well as a manager very quickly. We have received several opportunities to audition and have already been given a role in a movie. The teachers have been able to help our kids with teamwork and communication skills amongst many others. Our daughter, Sophia, walked into the program shy and unable to collaborate with others. Now she has grown into a team-player and has become more comfortable with speaking to adults and her peers. Our son Jacob has been able to develop superb memorization and acting skills for his future career. In addition, our daughter Mykayla, who is currently 4 years old, is already learning to memorize commercials as well as introduce herself to adults. This is a great family environment and SCSOPA truly sets themselves apart from any other place. We hope and know that others will be able to share the same experience as us at Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts." The Astua Family

February is National Children's Dental Health Month
Here's How to get Kids Involved

Teach your cuties the 2020 slogan from the American Dental Association, "Brush and clean in between to build a healthy smile" - and then incorporate these kid-friendly activities to celebrate better oral health!

Download Activities
Download crosswords, coloring sheets, kid-friendly oral-care calendars, maze activities and more at ada.org for fun lessons on the topic.

Get the Kids Involved
Teach your children about how oral health is important for every child - and then take them to buy toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss so they can donate the items to the local food pantry, domestic violence shelter or single-parent support org. Helping them help other kids improve their oral health will go a long way in teaching them not just oral-health practices, but gratitude and good citizenship, too.

Model Healthy Habits
Model good oral health habits - and make it fun! "Competitions" about who can brush until the timer goes off at two minutes, family flossing (No, not the dance - but if you can swing both at the same time, we want to see a video!) and reward charts all teach kids that taking care of their oral health is an important part of life.

THIS MONTH, WHY DON'T YOU...
Skip the sweet kid-classroom Valentine's Day card add-ons and swap with useful favors?
Opt for crazy straws ("You're 'ex-straw' special!"), mini bottles of bubbles, themed pencils, fruit cups (Turn them into Valentine characters with stuck-on googly eyes!), pencil toppers and glow-stick bracelets.

Model how to share the love with your community?
There's no better time than now for a family service project! Now that the holidays have passed, peak donations have, too. Clean out cupboards and make a trip to the grocery store, then head to the SCV Food Pantry (scvfoodpantry.org); drop diapers and wipes in sizes 3 to 6 to Single Mothers Outreach (singlemothersoutreach.org); or make and serve a meal to the local population struggling with homelessness via Bridge to Home (btohome.org).

Include grandparents in the fun?
Even tiny kids can craft simple, sweet mementos for Grandma and Grandpa. Older kids can write why they think their nana is the best by scrolling their thoughts on craft paper and adhering it to a fine bar of chocolate. Long-distance relatives will appreciate a card popped in the mail.

Seniors: Get Involved in the Santa Clarita Encore Chorale
Santa Clarita Encore Chorale, a non-profit choir program for seniors, invites adults age 55 or more to join their Spring 2020 semester. The music theme will be "Encore Goes to the Theater," with favorite Broadway and movie songs from "Fiddler on the Roof," "Mamma Mia," "Phantom of the Opera," "Sound of Music," "Greatest Showman: and "West Side Story." The 14-week semester finishes with a free public concert on Friday, April 24 at 7pm. Rehearsals and the concert are at the Newhall Church of the Nazarene. A modest semester tuition of $150 helps cover music and facilities costs. The first rehearsal is free with no obligation to continue. Auditions are not required. New singers will be accepted through February 7, 2020. For more details, contact Cheri Walters.
