Ask The Doctor>
Q: When can I start letting my child watch television?
A: The American Academy of pediatrics took a lot of heat some years ago when they recommended that children watch no more than two hours of television. They went on to recommend that there should be no television exposure until the child is at least two years old.
We often remind families that "all television is educational." Children learn from all television programming. There is also some evidence that they learn even more intensely from video games than from television. It is generally better to expose children to characters with admirable qualities, doing things you would like to see your children do. Slower-paced, commercial-free programming is also advised. Most importantly, we suggest watching television with your child in order to help him or her understand what's happening on the screen.
Finally, it's critical to be aware of the activities that television is replacing. You never get that time back. When your child smiles at her favorite character, the character on screen doesn't smile back. Be sure you're there to do exactly that, as much of the time as possible.
Infertility Acupuncture Now Available
Traditional Eastern Medicine provides customized treatment for both partners wanting to conceive. Often the stresses of life, frustration, improper diet, inadequate rest, unhealthy emotions, lack of exercise, toxins, pollutants and genetic factors all lead to an imbalance in the body. Acupuncture and herbal therapy offer a holistic approach to health care and are a widely-accepted form of treatment for those who cannot tolerate the side effects of strong medications, or have problems that modern medicine cannot adequately treat (like infertility). Dr. Koh is one of a few select Doctors of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (DAOM) in the United States. He has extensive experience as a practitioner and an educator and is currently a professor at Stanton University. He now provides acupuncture for the treatment of infertility; 257-1233 www.newhopehealingarts.com
