Ask The Doctor
Q: Does my Child have Asthma?

A: Although the hallmark of asthma is wheezing, children can wheeze with a simple viral illness and won't meet criteria for asthma. In order to make a diagnosis of asthma, the periods of recurrent wheezing must have started at least six months prior. Understandably, many families, and even physicians, are hesitant to make a diagnosis of asthma because they feel that it labels the child. But treatment can only begin once a diagnosis has been made. There are a variety of treatment modalities for asthma and each child with asthma must have his/her own "asthma action plan" in place.
Drs. Paul and Daphne Horowitz have opened Discovery Pediatrics, Inc., a unique pediatrics practice in Valencia 259-8999.
