Q: You've got four kids - it must be hard finding fun things to please everyone!
Is there any spring event that's a slam dunk for the Striplin crew?
It's more a home run than a slam dunk - because it's Dodger Day! Not only is it one of the longest-standing City events, it is America's pastime - baseball! Like many other parents in our city, baseball is a huge part of my life. Whether your kids play for a city team, school team, Hart Baseball or Softball or any of our other fine local leagues - baseball creates camaraderie, discipline and sportsmanship. Dodger Day gives our community a chance to come together to cheer on the boys in blue - all while supporting local schools and organizations. It is not too late to get tickets! Get yours, and more info, at scvdodgerday.com.

Q: The Amgen Tour of California is coming back to Santa Clarita. For those who have not attended before - what can they expect?
This year, our city is hosting the Stage 7 Start of the final stage of the seven-day race on Saturday, May 18. This means that the final leg of the race will start here in Santa Clarita, with cyclists racing to the finish line in Pasadena. Onlookers can expect to have a front-row seat to both the men's and women's races. You'll see some of the best cyclists in the world, including Olympians, Tour de France competitors and world champions racing from Westfield Valencia Town Center, on Town Center Drive, beginning the final 87 miles of America's most-prestigious cycling race. The Stage Start is a unique opportunity to get autographs from many of the top riders as well as see live interviews and feel the adrenaline as the cyclists await the crack of the starter's pistol. Beyond the start, there will be activities along Town Center Drive after the riders leave, including viewing parties at local restaurants.

Q: What message would you want to get out to the community this month?
Please be careful on our streets! Whether you are walking, cycling or driving - I urge you to be responsible, cautious and obey the rules of the road. During the last two years we saw a tremendous drop in the number of accidents on our city streets. In fact, we had zero pedestrian fatalities in 2017 and 2018. However, in 2019, two of our community members have already lost their lives while crossing the same stretch of Railroad Avenue. In both situations, witnesses report that the pedestrian crossed into oncoming traffic without checking for oncoming vehicles or using a crosswalk. By not utilizing the paseo bridges and crosswalks available, pedestrians are putting themselves and others at risk. It is crucial that drivers disconnect from distractions as well; don't respond to a text message while driving or stopped at a red light. Drivers should always stay focused on the road and avoid distracted driving. The city continues to work closely with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station to push out the Heads Up traffic safety campaign. Please check out santa-clarita.com/headsup for important safety information to protect you and your loved ones.
