Q: What are your favorite things about this festive time of year in Santa Clarita?
One of the things that many people enjoy is seeing the holiday light displays. Old Town Newhall is now all lit up for the holidays with tens of thousands of sparkling lights up and down Main Street - and of course, the 23-foot-tall Christmas tree in front of the Library. We also have neighborhoods that go all out with holiday decor. Wakefield Winter Wonderland has been a must-see spot for years over in Saugus. The best way to take in the holiday lights is via Santa Clarita Transit and our annual Holiday Light Tour! Our classic wood trolley and local Dial-A-Ride vehicles will take guests on a 45-minute tour of the best displays in town - so leave the driving to us!
If you are looking for a fun night of holiday entertainment, several shows are taking to the stage at Santa Clarita theatres. You can enjoy the Beach Boys classics and holiday songs, as well as "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at the Performing Arts Center. The Canyon Theatre Guild is taking the popular Christmas movie "Elf" and adapting it for the stage in "Elf, the Musical." Over at The MAIN, "A Cowboy Christmas Carol" is a rip-roarin' twist on the classic Dickens tale. Besides amazing performances there are some fantastic fundraisers to get you in the giving spirit. The always popular Boys & Girls Club Festival of Trees is taking place once again at Valencia Town Center. That is also where the annual Menorah Lighting takes place on the first night of Hanukkah, with a Lighting Ceremony, music and food. The Friends of Hart Park host their popular Cowboys & Carols event over at William S. Hart Park. There is much to do in our city to get you in the holiday spirit. You can find more information on all of these events and much more on our calendar website at calendar.santa-clarita.com.
Q: Where can people find out more about our local non-profits and their needs around the holiday season?
Santa Clarita has an amazing network of non-profits working to make our community the thriving place we all enjoy. No matter what your passion is - be it helping children, animals, seniors, those experiencing homelessness or others in need - there is a non-profit that would appreciate your time and support. Please visit santa-clarita.com/residents/community-links for a complete list of local organizations.
Q: Any other messages you would want to share with the community during the holidays?
I would like to thank our residents for their support and partnership in maintaining our high quality of life in Santa Clarita. I wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday season. I do want to remind residents to celebrate safely. Our newest iteration of our Heads Up traffic safety campaign is focusing on DUI prevention. It encourages everyone to "Know Your Options and Know Your Limits." There are many convenient ways to get home safely after a night of drinking - designate a driver or take advantage of a ride share service. Happy holidays, Santa Clarita!
