Summer in Santa Clarita
June, 2018 - Issue #165
Fireworks, festivals, family and fun are what the summer is all about - and from wet-and-wild ways to cool off, to taking a journey through a book, Santa Clarita has something for everyone. Whether you choose to stay close to home or travel out of town, the City has can't-miss staples to keep the summer fun and safe.

Jump into Aquatics Activities
Stay cool in a variety of family-friendly classes and more with Santa Clarita Aquatics. First stop - make sure your family is ready to dive in by refining those swim strokes with swim lessons. Classes run June through August at six City pool locations.

Next stop - Dive-In Movie Night! Playing this summer at the Santa Clarita Pool: "Despicable Me 3" on Saturday, July 7 and "Cars 3" on Saturday, July 21. Enjoy the family-friendly flicks while floating or lounging on the deck.
Do you love both yoga and being in the water? Then H©üOga is for you! This class uses floating yoga mats for the perfect combination of Pilates, yoga and interval training. You can wear your swimsuit or yoga attire - but be prepared to get wet! For more information on all the fun with Santa Clarita Aquatics, please visit santa-clarita.com/seasons.

Make Time for Santa Clarita Library Summer Reading
Take your kids on an exploration of your neighborhood and untold worlds beyond at your local library where "Reading Takes You Everywhere!" Fluffy mascots Gaston and Antoinette encourage little ones to cuddle up with a good book during the Summer Reading Program, which runs June 11 through July 28. Reading groups are available for a variety of age levels, school readiness and bilingual reading. Kids can bring imagination to life at dance parties, family storytimes, Tinkerlabs and more.

Summer reading slows the "summer slide" of childhood achievement lost from the previous school year, according to the American Library Association. Make settling in for storytime a part of your family summer stay-cation! For a full list of activities, visit santaclaritalibrary.com/events.

Daytrip with Us on the Santa Clarita Transit Beach Bus
Grab your gear, bring your friends and prepare to catch some rays with the Summer Beach Bus, one of the best ways to get to the waves without the hassle of LA traffic. Routes to Santa Monica will run every Saturday and Sunday from June 2 through September 2. Make your trip even more convenient by purchasing Beach Bus passes on your mobile device with the Token Transit App. For routes, times and locations, visit santaclaritatransit.com. Summer isn't summer without a trip to the beach - see you there!

Have you Started Your 9pm Safety Routine?
Summer relaxation and changing schedules can shift our at-home safety habits. Do you have a 9pm routine for your family's evenings? The City and the LA County Sheriff's Department encourage all residents to set an alarm on smartphones, or post a simple checklist at home, to cement simple habits that can build a safer community:

Remove valuables from your vehicle (electronic devices, wallets, etc.).
Ensure all vehicle doors, windows and trunks are locked.
Check locks on all exterior home and property doors, as well as garage entries.
Turn on exterior lights.
Remind neighbors, family and friends by sharing on social media, using #9pmRoutine.

You can also follow the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and the City of Santa Clarita on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for important safety updates. Keeping our community safe starts at home!
