November, 2004 - Issue #2

Triangle Pose

Every joint, muscle and ligament is engaged in the Triangle pose, which is known for facilitating the release of pent-up emotions. Allow your mind to become quiet, feel your heart and chest open up with your breath and enjoy the way Triangle stretches your tight muscles. Triangle can be performed on both sides in order to maintain symmetry.

This pose directs blood to the brain, opens up the spinal column, stretches the hamstrings, releases tension in the shoulders and neck and strengthens the arms. Carefully align yourself in position and hold for several full breaths. Return to standing or sitting position slowly to avoid dizziness.

The large muscle groups are worked in this pose, encouraging the flow of energy. Directing your arms to the sky allows energy to flow up into the heart and throughout the body. Full, long breaths will oxygenate your blood, which will help your body counter stress and improve mental and physical performance.
